Did you change your spark plug? Just because you have good spark does not mean the plug is firing under compression or the porcelain is not cracked.

1999 Polaris Sportsman 500. I have fuel leaking from the tank fitting that the hose to the fuel shutoff goes. When I try to tighten it, it leaks more. Any suggestions?

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to a Polaris Category.

Normally, you would just drain the tank, remove the fitting and replace the gasket. I don't see a gasket though, unless it is just a standard O-ring. That is the way to do it though.

How can I stop leak?

Hi Charlotte:
You'll need to determine the exact source of the leak:
- Failed hose? Replace it.
- Hose not tight on coupling? If there is enough slack, cut 1/2 " off end of hose and re-install.
- Hole in tank or coupling tube. Repair or replace.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.

Fuel leaking from hose on bottom of carburetor

This happens when the float in the bowl sticks open. On a carborator the bowl holds gas. When the fuel pump fills the bowl the float raises and is pushing a needle valve that shuts off the gas until the float goes down and the needle valve opens and adds more gas. sometimes is sticks or the needle valve doesnt seat properly. You should rebuild it, buy a carb rebuild kit for your type of carb. It comes with new needle valves, just remember how it came appart.
Good luck

It is leaking water out the bottom when off and won't **** it back up through bottom chamber when on

I personally would dismantle the covers as much as possible. Look for any leaky hoses or tubes. Look for cracks in the canister that could leak. Any air leaks can cause lack of vacuum pressure and release the liquid that is already there. Or if the pump is faulty or leaking, it won't work to **** or to hold pressure.

Gas coming from black tube

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially and to my knowledge, some of the hoses connected to a carb would be:
  • from tank through fuel shutoff valve;
  • overflow hose;
  • drain hose;
  • in some case a vacuum hose.
Of the above, the only possible hose that would fit your description would be the overflow hose. Should this be the case, then this indicates that the float inside the carb's bowl has not moved up to engage/close the inflow valve. A workaround is to tap the bottom of the bowl to jar the float to go up as well as the shutoff the inflow valve. The drain hose would also allow fuel to flow out from the carb but that would mean the drain screw is loose/opened.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Pls be informed that due to my current rank and rating, even a Helpful would be detrimental to my status. Should this solution not address your concern, it would be appreciated if you could just not rate it at all. Cheers.
