Fuel mixture screws are currently 2 turns out, k&n filter fitted in standard air box with micron 4-1 SS exhaust fitted too. Lots of black deposits around the end of the race can, bike smells rich too. Recently there was a leak in the vacuum pipe; a new pipe has been replaced. Also, fuel tap diaphragm had been fitted incorrectly, this has now been rectified and fuel tap also cleaned out. The bike will do over the ton no probs but just smells rich and lumpy at idle.

Hello
Having owned this (mine was a 91) model and knowing allot of Suzuki owners over the years the problem here is the fuel valve (called a Petcock valve) is defective, they sick, the reason is that the valve is operated by engine vacuum, so it only delivers fuel when the engine is cranking over or running, the only exception to this is the so called Prime position marked with a "P" on the valve. The hose consist two small vacuum lines from the engine that operate the valve in the run and reserve position and the large line is the fuel delivery hose to the engine. My advice is to mark the lines with tape, remove the fuel tank and replace the fuel petcock valve with a new one, this will also eleminate the other nasty problem this valve has, the rubber O ring fails and it leaks fuel all over the engine fairings and runs the paint, this happened to my bike.
