Neutral light stays on all the time
SOURCE: I can not start my Honda Goldwing 89 1500 Trike
Hi it sounds like the starter solinoid or starter relay is not working or there could be a loose wire or the starter motor is faulty

Sort of sounds like a Twilight Zone kind of problem doesn't it. I would have the battery checked for an internal dead short. This is something that happens on odd occasions and can happen even to a new battery. Yea, the little lights will work ( they do not draw much juice ), but the starter motor draws a lot of juice and a shorted battery just ain't got it. Also check the wiring harness connections. One loose connection can cause bunches of trouble.

With the bike NOT in neutral, you must be holding the CLUTCH lever in to start. Otherwise, nada. If you look at the inside section of that lever, two little wires come out of the little boot--to which connect a switch. That'd be the faulty one. To test, leave the clutch disengaged, use a multimeter/ohm meter and check for continuity or open on the switch directly--remove the wires first, they just push on. after measured with handle untouched, hold in the lever and measure again. this time it should be a closed circuit, registering continuity. If not, swap it. Dont simply jump these two wires--the bike WILL just jump up if you do that and try to start and the bike's NOT in neutral.

Pull the license plate cover off. the tail light harness is on the left side. Honda sells a pigtail that connects to it.

Had the same problem with my GL 1100 I. A rock had kicked up and hit the speedometer cable mount at the fork and split the plastic screw mount. The cable terminus started to back out from the fork. Any way went to Honda spent $12.00 on a new speedometer cable and installed it in about 10 min.
