2004 cbr 1000 shift problems

I'm having issues shifting into first and slipping out of gear in 2nd and 3rd. It takes a certain finesse to get it to downshift into first, when it does it wants to pop out, and also slips into neutral in second and third gear. what would cause this??

SOURCE: gearbox 'clank', and someting sounding like it is loose

This will become more dangerous over time. Go to your dealer. This will be cheaper than an (uninsured) crash when you cannot drive out of trouble because you ignored your broken gearbox. This will invalidate your insurance.

Sorry but it's not loose, you have a bad shifting fork. The first gear fork is going or gone which causes the mis-shifting. You are hearing the clutch basket most likely. With the backlash in the gearbox you can get a noise coming from the clutch hub coming lose from the primary drive gear it is attached to. I also believe there is a chain for the harmonic balancer that needs to be adjusted. It makes a nasty noise and sounds like the engine is almost grinding when it does it. The noise will go away under accelleration.

SOURCE: Problem with the shifting

You have bent shift forks. I would replace all the forks in this case. This is a job for the shop. You would not want to tackle it at home. Most guys who do wind up taking a box of parts to the dealer. The repair costs more that way than if you just take them the bike.
Sorry for your problem.

Pleas rate this solution. Thanks!

SOURCE: When I shift from second gear to first, it just slips to neutral

You have a bent shift fork not engaging the slider gear properly into 1st gear. The engine will need to come out of the bike. Remove the top end, the flywheel and electrics, the clutch, shift mechanism and kick starter and a few other parts. THEN you are ready to split the gearbox to get to the crankshaft, gears and shift forks.

You will need an impact driver, flywheel puller, case splitter, torque wrench and factory service manual, plus the normal screwdriver, pliers, etc.. Alternate to the special tools is taking it to the dealer and say "Fix it". I normally tell people to take it to the shop just so they don't get into such an involved project and they have a knowing eye working on the engine.

I have a 2004 Envoy slt 4wd auto....The car will shift fine from 1st to 2nd gear but rpms climb and it does't go to 3rd. I tried to maunually shift through gears, but it still doesn't get 3rd?

its most def a purely transmission issue i believe its the solenoids. have it taken to a reputable trans shop near and have them diagnose it with there speciall code reader.

I own a 1998 Chevy Blazer 4wd that is on its 3rd transmission and I'm having the same issue where when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear it's slipping badly my rpm's rev up to 3500 and I have to take my foot...

this is a known issue with the gm 4L60E transmission. the valve body in transmission causes this. if it is wore, then less fluid is sent to shift selonoids. thus causing torque convertor not to lock up, and this causes slipping. if it slips 2 consecutive trips then the transmission detects this and should turn on check engine light. ( p1870 ). you can see if the tcc solinoid is bad. but if not its usually the valve body in tranny.

Trans slips between 2nd and 3rd shift

MV could be the problem. Always work thru issue before buying ANY can of additive. Generally those things just mask the issue..not fix it. Change your fluid, and if that doesnt correct it,then take it in and have the tranny bands tightened. most shops do this relatively in expensively.

Trouble changing down gears on my gsxr 600 only happens now and again going from 3rd to 2nd and 1st

I had a CBR that I had the same issue with. Sometimes it would go into gear, sometimes not. I would recommend lubricating the shifting assembly really good and checking it for proper adjustment. Sometimes adjusting the shift level will sovle this problem. Also changing the transmission oil can help in certain circumstances. If you are not using synthetic oil in your clutch case you can try a semi-synthetic oil and seee if that helps. If it does and you do not experience any clutch slippage then you can gradullay go to full synthetic. If you experience slipping change back to regular conventional. If you are using synthetic now they make additives that you can put in the transmission case to help the tranny shift more smoothly.
