The ignition system fails to start the engine. Do have a good yuasa battery with clean solid terminal connections; but no reaction from the starter at times. random failuer to start. the bike may start several times in a weeks time then fail to start; no solenoid click; no low battery growl, no solenoid click. The clutch safety switch on the handle bars might be bad. I changed mine when I had this problem and had no problems after this. Hope this helps.

Take a voltmeter and check the armature. You should have continuity between every other contact that the brushes hit. You should not have continuity between adjacent contacts. If the armature is shorted you have found the problem.

Did you sync the two carbs? If not the rear may be getting all the gas from the rear carb and none to the front. Twist throttle engine off and see if front carb cable is pulling the carb open.
Also unscrew the spark plug boot from the front spark plug wire and trim 1/8th inch off the wire and screw the boot back in. The plug wire end may be corroded on that wire.

the clutch switch is a valid piece of the system check however not the solution to my deliema with this bike; I've discovered that the contact in the start switch is nearly used up. I've shimmed the contact and the bike has not failed to start since. I've ordered a replacement switch and am awaiting delivery of it berfore I'll know for sure.
