Fuel drain tube...i think

My vstar 1100 classic 2001 ran out of gas on the road so it shutdown on me. filled it back up, as i was driving i smelt and abundance of fuel and noticed their was fuel dripping out of what looks like a fuel drain tube coming from the bottom of the fuel tank. i shut the eng down. started it back up and noticed it takes a min or two for the fuel to start coming out of the tube. why is this happening?

Hi,

The fuel overflow is a normal reaction when you run out of fuel. The float partially got stuck in the open position allowing the fuel to fill the bowl . Being stuck, the float will not push on the closing valve to cutoff the supply, hence the overflow. A temporary workaround is to jar the float by tapping solidly on the bottom of the carb bowl where the drain screw is housed. This idea is to jar the floats to move up and close the valves.

In some instances, it is possible that dirt/sand/debris might have past trough the filtering system and block/clog or prevent the closing of the flow valve even if the floats are operating normally. These dirt/sand/debris would have been sitting peacefully at the bottom of the tank but has been agitated and made to flow with the last few fuel left.

of course, the correct action would be to dis-assemble and perform checking/cleaning of the carbs and its associated components/parts.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

2002 yamaha vstar 1100 where is the fuel pump located?

if the bike is fuel injected- the pump is in the fuel tank.. if the bike has carburetors- there is normally no fuel pump- the fuel gravity feeds from the tank thru the petcock valve into the carbs

When I start my 2003 Vstar 1100 Classic, and as i give it throttle during ideling, it dies out? Also as im driving my bike and i come to a red light and i down shift and the idle lowers, it dies out, but...

There are a few quick things to try before cleaning the carbs.

1.Clean your air filter, it may be choking out, trust me a dirty air filter will choke out a bike.
2.Check your spark plugs. If they are black and sooty, change them out. Its quick and less expensive.

I diagnosed a 2001 Roadking Fuel injected. Ran like ****, hardly any throttle response, died at idle.
the customer said he just had it serviced a month ago at the dealer.
I pulled the plugs and they were nasty. The dealer forgot to change out the sparkplugs. It Happens
I Put in a new set of spark plugs and the bike ran like new.
I've fixed a bunch of bikes in the past and this one always stuck in my mind because of the difference in performance.

Try the sparkplugs, i think its more likely to be that than the air filter.

What's the widest rear tire that can be installed on a 2002 vstar 1100 classic without a drive train modification

With out modification to the drive train you can go up one more tire size than stock as lond as you have clearance on both sides of the tire any where around the back of the bike.

02 yamaha vstar 1100, ran fine. started it the

Sounds like it may be drawing air around the intake somewhere. Let it idle and spray around carefully with wd-40 until it speeds up. This will reveal the leak.
