Save our bonneville

If anyone can provide me with info I would greatly appreciate it. Here's what happened: My husband performed an oil change, lubed the throttle and clutch cables on our 2005 Bonneville. When he did the oil change he used car engine oil rather than an oil specially designed for motorcycles. On the second ride after the oil change the bike starting acting weird: backfiring, surging forward and then stalling continuously, but always restarting immediately. When this happened he contacted a triumph dealership and spoke with a mechanic there and was told that he shouldn't have used the car oil and to get it out. So he performed another oil change and filter change too. The bike backfired, surged and stalled for the first twenty minutes, but then all symptoms completely disappeared while riding for another two hours. We went to a family function, rode for another twenty five minutes without a problem. We went home and took the bike out an hour later for another ride and it was fine for the first ten minutes, but then the original symptoms reappeared as bad as ever. We rode it on two other occasions and it remained troublesome. We have since emptied the gas tank and cleaned the filter and checked out the carb which seems spotless. Any suggestions would be appreciated because I am insistent on keeping this bike, while my husband is not.

Sounds like the throttle cables need to be looked over .( he get everything back to where it was before the lubing?)as one may be out of sync with the other. the oil change has NOTHING to do with the sputtering and surging ,stall .it would only apply if the clutch was slipping and that would make the bike rev with the car oil.

Could be a locked up oil pump if you're fortunate. It sounds though like you've broken or seized a bearing or several.
Have a really good, honest mechanic take a look.

I don't have an owner's manual for my 1990 BMW 735i... I'm due for an oil change but BMW dealership wants to charge me $200.00 and a local jiffy lube wants to charge me $100.00. My boyfriend wants to do...

yea i think those prices are for a synthetic oil change because thats a lot to charge. that year and model just use regular oil. if yr boyfrind has changed oil before he should be able to change this one the only thing on this one is the oil filtor is not a spin on filtor its inside a aluminum housing on the drivers side of the engine and to take it off is just one big nut that u loosen from the top. all the rest is the same as any other oil change. just let me know if you have any other questions

I have a suzuki esteem 1999 I had my neighbor put mu oil in and noe my stick is saying its over and my car now is acting funny, does anyone know if this would cause problems and if so what would it do

Did the neighbor perform an oil change or just add oil to the engine. It's not good to overfill with oil. You can have someone drain a little oil, but that's going to get real messy. If I were you i would take the car to someplace like Jiffy Lube, or Firestone tire store and have the oil and filter changed. It may cost you $40, but might save you a big repair job later on because of the overfill.

1994 mercedes E320, radiator light has come on, unsure of problem as everything seems fine, any help appreciated

This usually just means the coolant level is low. If you are unsure how to check it yourself, ask a friend, or take it to a mechanic. The oil-change services (Jiffy-Lube, Q-Lube, etc.) will usually check and add coolant as part of their normal oil-change service as well, if you happen to be needing an oil change too.

Engine knocks at startup

It could be the oil pump, its not a bad idea to check the type of engine oil you are using maybe you can go a little higher in grade,
you can also try to use STP Engine oil treatment for petrol (gas) as addative to the engine oil it may help.
Hope this helps!
