To eliminate which is causing the sticking:
Remove cable lug from throttle tube and roll throttle back and forth with 1 finger. It should roll very easily.
Now with cable still undone from the tube, grasp the cable lug and pull it straight out and slowly feed it back into the cable sheath. If it sticks, then remove carb and top of carb. Leave slide attached to cable and pull the cable out by the lug like you did before. Watch the spring compress and extend as you slowly let it back out. if it sticks again this time, you mostly likely have a single broken strand that is snagging on the coil shaped section of the sheath. If not, then you have an issue with the slide not freely traveling in the tracks, or the main jet needle not smoothly reinserting into the hole of the main jet.

Back to the very first test. If the throtle tube stuck at any point with the cable unattached, remove the rubber grip and check for cracks or breaks in the plastic throttle tube. With the rubber grip removed, and tube still attached roll it again with one finger. If it moves easily, take a look at the large round part of the grip. was it rubbing on the housing of the brake reservior?

Try spraying the throttle shafts liberally with penetrating oil while gently moving the hand grip. Try some lubricant down the cable as well - just in case.

How to change out a choke cable on 2001 barley fxd


To change the choke cable, you must take the carb off the engine. Remove the air filter and backing plate. Take the nut off the backside of the choke cable and let the cable come out of the bracket that holds it. Make sure the petcock is turned off and disconnect the fuel hose at the carb. Loosen the throttle and idle cable at the handlebar throttle assembly. Pull the carb out of the intake manifold seal. Work the throttle and idle cables out of their positions in the carb. Bring the carb with the choke cable out and away from the engine. Take the choke cable out of the carb with a 14mm open end wrench. Take the plunger and spring off the old cable and swap it to the new cable and reinstall the choke cable. Put the throttle and idle cables back onto the carb, put a new intake manifold seal on the intake manifold and push the carburetor back into the new seal. Put the choke cable in it's bracket and secure the nut. Be careful and do not over tighten the nut as the plastic cable housing will break. Reconnect the fuel line, the vacuum line, and anything else that was taken off. Replace the air filter backing plate and the air cleaner. Readjust the throttle and idle cables making sure that the throttle operates freely and returns when let go on it's own. Never put any kind of lubricant on the choke cable. There is a knurled wheel that you can use to tighten the cable so that it stays where you put it.

Fuel enrichment knob broke i have new cable but manuel does not explain procedure


To replace the enricher cable on the stock Kiehen CV carb, you must remove the carb from the engine.

Remove the air cleaner cover, air filter, and backing plate. To get the backing plate off, you must remove the two large union bolts that go to the heads on either side of the ari filter backing plate and the three smaller bolts at the mouth of the carb. Loosen the adjustment of the throttle cables at the handlebar throttle grip. Take the nut off the backside of the enricher cable and it fall loose from it's bracket. Disconnect the fuel line from the carb, make sure the petcocik is turned off. Now, twist the carb slightly and pull until it comes out. Make sure you guide the enricher cable out. Once you get the carb out far enough, remvove the throttle and the idle cable from the carb and bring the carb on away from the engine. Now, use a 14 mm wrench to unscrew the enrcher cable from the carb. You'll have to change the elbow, nut, spring, and needle from the old cable to the new cable and reinstall it on the carb.

To replace the carb, guide the enricher cable back between the cylinders. Reconnect the throttle and idle cables on the carb. Replace the intake manifold seal (round rubber boot on the intake manifold) and lubricate it with a bit of silicone spray or something. Push the carb as far as you can into the seal. Reconnect the fuel line and adjust the throttle cables. Make sure you don't get them too tight and that the throttle works like it should. Replace the air filter backing plate, air filter, and air filter cover. Put the enricher cable up into it's bracket and tighten the nut on the backside. Be very careful tightening the nut as the plastic housing breaks easily. Tighten the nut just tight enough to securely hold the cable. Check the operation of the carb and make sure it operates smoothly and correctly. Now, you should be ready to ride.

How to replace choke cable


In order to replace the choke cable, you must take the carburetor off. Start by taking the air filter assembly off the engine, including the backing plate. Then, disconnect the fuel line, drop the choke cable from it's bracket on the left side of the bike, and loosen and disconnect the throttle cables. There is a vacuum line that plugs onto either the back of the carburetor or the intake manifold. Once all this is loose, pull the carb out of the intake seal and guide the choke cable out of with the carb.

Now, that you have the carb out, using a 14mm wrench, unscrew the choke cable where it goes into the carb. You'll have to take the plunger and spring off the old cable and put it on the new cable. The screw it back into the carb.

Reconnect the throttle cables and vacuum lines and install the carb back into the intake using a new intake manifold seal. If you don't replace this seal, you may wind up with a vacuum leak and have running problems. Reinstall the fuel line and air cleaner assembly. Adjust the throttle cables and make sure the carb works correctly. Never lubricate the choke cable. If you do, it will not stay out when you pull it out. There is knurled tension wheel behind the knob when you pull the knob out. Tighten or loosen the tension on the cable with this. Do not over-tighten the big nut on the backside or the cable housing will break,, cheap plastic stuff.

How do i get the carbs off a gsx 750es


remove the seat, gas tank, airbox, and side covers.
loosen the throttle cable free play at the adjuster, located by the handlebars.
Loosen the intake boot clamps on carb side.Leave the intakes on the engine.
Loosen the airbox boot clamps at the carbs. remove those boots with the airbox if you can.

Disconnect the fuel line from the carb.


Now pull up on the back of the carbs and down on the front until the carbs slip out of the intake boots.
Now you can use a 10 mm wrench to disconnect the throttle cables from the carb.
Use a philips screwdriver and loosen the choke cable from its brace, and remove the choke cable from the crarb.

Now slide out the left side of the motor and they are out.

I have a 2006 electra glaide police bike ...how do i install a new throttle cable


First remove the air filter cover, the air filter element, and the air filter backing plate so you can get to the carb end of the cables.

Then, adjust the cables so that you have as much slack as you can get in them.

Loosen the two bolts that hold the front brake master cylinder on and slide it towards the center of the handlebars. Take the two bolts out of the right handlebar switch half. Separate the switch halves carefully as there are wires in there. Work the cable out of the throttle sleeve, take the ferrel off the end, and pull the cable out of the lower switch housing. Sometimes this can be aggravating but spray some penetrating oil in there and keep working it. Once out, disconnect the cable at the carb end.

Reassembly is basically the reverse of the dis-assembly. When putting the switch housing back together, don't pinch any wires and don't slide the throttle assembly all the way up on the bars. Once you have the throttle assembly bolted together and the master cylinder repositioned against the front face of the switch housing, adjust the throttle cables. Not to tight, a bit of slack in each cable. The throttle should "snap" back when you release the throttle. If not, work with it until it does. Failure to properly adjust and insure proper throttle operation can cause the lose of control of the vehicle which could result in serious injury or death to the rider.

My bike was sitting for a while before i bought it i wanted to clean up the carbs but cant get them all the way off. i need to know how to remove the throttle and choke lines


Choke cable - The cable nipple attaches to a bracket on the choke shaft, pull on metal end of the cable (where it goes onto the carbs) until the bracket has moved enough to disengage the nipple (hold bracket, release cable & disengage)
Throttle cables - Loosen the cable adjuster at the twist-grip all the way. Next loosen the 4 clamp screws holding the carbs on, disconnect the vacuum hoses, then remove carbs lift them up & disconnect the cable nipples from their holders

1981 Yamaha MX upper replacement throttle cable.


Yes, take the cap off the carb and disconnect the cable then do the oil pump cable. The connector tube should then come apart for upper cable replacement. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

Idles at full throttle


Be sure the throttle cable is routed correctly and is not being stretched. When disconnected from the carb, does the inner throttle cable operate freely? Lubricate it. Also check that the cable connections at throttle and carb are seated properly. Does the slide move up and down freely? Remove the air filter and twist the throttle while looking inside the throat of the carb. LIGHTLY seat the throttle screw and the air screw then open each of them one and one half turns outward.
