Hello sir, ryobi trimmers and other models removal of the bell housing, removal of the metal bell housing,or clutch drum, on models 780R & 790R, here is what you do. after removing the trimmer & shaft assembly.remove the spark plug insert a screwdriver in the cylinder to keep piston from moveing. to remove the bell housing twist off the spring and using a T20 TORX screwdriver unscrew the retaining screw in the center of the bell housing (normal r/h thread) . push down firmely try not to strip screw head . you should be able to remove clutch housing.remove clutch using a pair of channel locks, works for me, (normal r/h thread) you should be able to remove front engine cover to repair what you need to.coil, pull stsrt, hope this works,. this solution applies to all trimmers with clutch removal~~~hope this helps,,any comments welcome, thank you. 11

How do I fix the pull string on a push mower?

Hi Barbara:
The pull start assembly is usually attached by 3 or 4 bolts.
Start by removing it. Depending on where the pull cord broke, you may be able to use it shortened a bit, but replacement is probably a good idea.
There is a spring inside the thing the cord winds around (spool)that retracts it after you've pulled on it. The tricky part is making sure that the spring is wound up enough after you've installed the replacement cord.
Look at the way the old cord is installed. If you can, grab it with some pointy pliers and pull it all the way out, winding up the spring tension at the same time. There should be a way to hold the spool (look for a hole you can slip the end of a nail into) so you can change the cord. Then Take the nail out and make sure the cord retracts all the way.
Next step is to re-install it on the mower.
Cheerfuls!

My Polaris sportman 500 pull cord stick some time, also the starter seem to stick also. I got water in the pull cord and I cleaed it out and loub, but it till sticking some

Charles, the pull cord housing has a plug on the bottom to drain water. You probably never did that like the rest of us who suffered the same thing. I had to change the starter and the pull start assembly/spring due to corrosion. Bite the bullet and do the same. It only corrodes more from here on...always use the drain plug in the future and spray a ton of wd-40 in there when sticky

We have a toro model 20031. The battery doesn't work and my husband disconnected all battery connections. Should the engine still start with the pull cord?

leave all the battery connections connected, then prime the carb, and pull to start, i have a quad with an electric start and a pull start, it will not start with the pull cord if the battery is not connected.

My pressure washers does not start.

Will it start if you pour a small amoum of gas in the carb? If so, carb float needle probably stuck closed.

Cannot pull start pressure washer. Cord will not

cord will not extend past 3 inches; just shut down after last use after 30 seconds.

Stihl KM 55 won't start

1. 1st change the spark plug to NGK BPMR 7A.
2. Set the kill switch to on position (I)
3. lock the throttle interlock on
4. Do not prime the fuel bulb...this may cause flooding.
5. set the choke to full choke.
6. pull the cord gently until the piston resists then pull hard
7. repeat pull a second time
8. open choke all the way
9. pull cord again hard.
engine should start within 2-3 pulls, release throttle and feather the throttle until stable
