your alternater has died. there is two metal brushes in there that you can replace. if the engine dies when you take the positive off, then your alternator is not working at all. I had the same problem with my XS 650 special.

check the rotor magnet to see if the windings are shorted to the base use an ohm meter to check for grounding to the base.

soounds like a leaky exhaust valve to me,,,do a compreshion test first to check it could need the carbs reset up if its running week on one pot this could do it too

I checked with a local Yamaha Dealership. They found it.

What is the Wattage of the bulbs you have used? Standard would be 27W. Whatever wattage bulbs are used have to be matched by the wattage handling characteristics of the flasher unit, meaning a 27W bulb would require a 27W flasher. If you have installed heavy duty halo or neon bulbs, you may require extra juice at the flasher. If you find this is so, I would take the bike to a shop that specializes in electrical and let them do the job for you as you may fry the harness if you are not sure of what you are doing. SR
