Is my 2004 Harley Davidson 6 volt or 12 volt?
Hi, Anonymous 12 volts, for this scenario you will need your service manual that has all fastener torque specs -fluid capacities and a wiring diagram on the back pages, parts fiche, and owners manual if you can not find the best tool you ever bought for your Harley, despair not, for a mere zero $0 you can download another one.

SOURCE: replaceing the battery on a 2004 harley davidson
One of them should be red, with a plastic cover on it, and the other one black, and they should only reach the terminal they belong to, The battery should only fit one way, for the wires to reach it. So, red is hot, or +,, and black is neg, or -,,, Hope this helps.

Pretty hard to offer suggestion with so little info.
If chain drive could be chains too loose.
Check oil level.
Get M/C shop to check......alot of good money at stake there.
