Hello, i have just replaced the electronic speedo drive on my B125 2003 and the speedo still isnt working. i checked to make sure its seated correctly and fitted correctly. ive checked all the fuses, i have checked the wiring for any obvious issues. the little light on the speedo blips, all the other electrics seem to working fine, lights, horn, indicators, fuel gauge etc. i also replaced the speedo/fuel gauges with the same result. im hoping someones got some idea of what it might be??

the problem will more than likely be the printed circuit board on the back of the instrument cluster. to remove this lower the steering wheel to its lowest position. there are 2 phillip head screw in the top of the surround remove these and pull surround out. there are 4 screw ,2 top and 2 bottom which hold the instrument cluster in place.remove and then pull the cluster toward you and out. I found the crack in mine to be on the long turn over section which turned out to be between the oil warning light and the hand brake warning light which in my case stopped working along with the tacho and speedo. I repaired the crack by scrapping off the lacquer coating and repairing the track with a circuitworks Conductive Pen - Micro Tip made by chemtronics and purchased from **** smiths ( fairly dear though aprox $40 ).

Normally I'd say the float/sending unit in the gas tank is the culprit, however the fact that your service engine light is involved requires further investigation, You need to hook up an obd2 reader to the interface mounted under your dashboard and see what it has to say, there might be a simple error code preventing your gauge from functioning. Many auto parts stores will do this for you for free...

Hi ahcobras. Did you check that the dimmer switch hasn't accidentaly been turned to the off position? You don't say what car it is on, but as it has cruise control, it probably has a dimmer switch! Instrument lights don't usually have a seperate fuse......

Sounds like you have a ground fault. I once had a car with a faulty ground wire on the headlight, when I put high beam on the speedo would jump to 170km/h and the indicators would glow dimly. Sure sounds like a similar ground fault to me, check all the ground straps, from the headlight or anywhere else you can think of.
