1996 Suzuki GSF 600 S Bandit Logo
Anonymous Posted on Nov 06, 2011

I have a 1996 bandit 600. It has been sitting for 3 months and it starts fine with the choke on but will not allow me to turn the choke off, even after running for a few. Also it will idle, with the choke on 1/4 of the way and when I rev It instantly dies. Any Ideas

Hi, you could try undoing the drain screws at the bottom of each float bowl, to let out the old fuel from each carb which may have become contaminated, however it is my thoughts that the contamination caused by the fuel standing for a period of time in the carbs has formed a varnish type effect blocking the main jets, also causing the float needle to become stuck in the closed position restricting the flow of petrol into the carbs, not such a bad job if you are mechanicaly mindedk

hi, sorry late getting back to you, (working), does this still feel like fuel problem to you or does it stop as if someone is turning the switch off?, if you have made sure all your carbs are clean, try undoing the drain screws in the float bowl once more incase some thing has restricted the fuel supply, secondly check the switch on the side stand is not sticking this sometimes happens on bikes that have been standing a while, the safety switch inhibits you starting the bike with the stand down while in gear, keep at it you will get there patientce pays off in the end, any questions email me, paul

My cbr 600 f2 1993 had been sitting for a long time

Sounds like the carbs were not properly cleaned or set up. Choke should cause the cold start rpms to be higher than what you are experiencing. Application of choke to a warmed up engine will usually cause the engine to stall.

Hard to keep running

how long has the bike been sitting?? It sounds like your carbs are blocked up and need to be cleaned and synchronized.
good luck
