I just tried to start my 89 rm 250 it wouldn't kick so i squirted some petrol straight into the air intake and kicked it, it started but was on full revs i tried to stop it by pulling the ht lead off but it carried on at full revs for a few seconds, i didn't want to try it again as i have no rads or water and didn't want to cause any damage, is there a reason it was reving so highI just tried to start my 89 rm 250 it wouldn't kick so i squirted some petrol straight into the air intake and kicked it, it started but was on full revs i tried to stop it by pulling the ht lead off but it carried on at full revs for a few seconds, i didn't want to try it again as i have no rads or water and didn't want to cause any damage, is there a reason it was reving so high
Hi, it sounds like the reason it wont start by normal methods, could be the throttle slide has been inserted into the carb the wrong way, as it will only fit correctly one way, when inserted back to front the cutout on the bottom of the slide should face away from the engine, thus alowing the fuel to be closed off when the hrottle is closed, make sure the slide is inserted correctly, a noise can be heard when the throttle is closed fullyHi, it sounds like the reason it wont start by normal methods, could be the throttle slide has been inserted into the carb the wrong way, as it will only fit correctly one way, when inserted back to front the cutout on the bottom of the slide should face away from the engine, thus alowing the fuel to be closed off when the hrottle is closed, make sure the slide is inserted correctly, a noise can be heard when the throttle is closed fully

If you are referring to the power band, this is when your reed valves open.Check for cracked or damaged reeds. You need to remove carb and reeds are between carb and cylender.Check also the rubber boot that carb attaches to for cracks.this will cause intake air leak and cause reeds to not open properly.
check the easy stuff first like shift drum detent ext you will have to pull left case cover if its not in there then you will have to pull the engine and split the cases to check dogs and dog houses (old school) wore shift drum and forks (bent or wore)
The mixture of of anti-freeze/coolant to water should always be 50-50, or 50% anti-freeze/coolant and 50% water, and the mixture should not exceed 75-25 or 75% anti-freeze/coolant and 25% water. If the mixture is more that 75-25 then the anti-freeze/coolant will not function properly in the cooling system and it can actually cause the engine to overheat, and if the mixture is below 50-50 then the anti-freeze/coolant protection will be deminished.
does not seem like the waterpump. is the clutch set too loose? usually in wire based clutches, if the clutch cable is set to be too loose, or if it is frayed, and needs replacement, the bike will jump and stall. check that.
