SOURCE: 2000 yamaha vstar 1100 custom. starter problem?

I had the same problem 2001 XVS1100 Custom
this is a starter issue Over time the starter on this bike twists when its under a load.
Look at the two bolts holding the starter on if they are not straight across then its twisted. turn starter back in line with a pair of big channel locks and try to start this should do the trick if this works i would recommend taking the two bolts out and bend them back straight or replace and reinstall starter this should fixya problem

Hope this helps ...............Jimmyfixya

SOURCE: Yamaha 1100 Drag Star 2001 Custom motor starter,

These parts are fairly reliable. Rather than buying new, you should be able to pick one up from a motorcycle breaker who will post it to you. I would expect to pay about £60-£100 tops in the UK (Depending on mileage). ANy Yamaha dealer will be happy to order you one new, but they are a hell of a price!

SOURCE: replaced starter relay and stater in yamaha 1100 2001 v star

Charge battery to full, start in neutral, still clicks? Bad ground, or bad connection. Jump starter solenoid with screwdriver, etc. if motor turns over the relay is bad. Chaz Moto DC

1998 v star 650 I was riding it and engine shut off and will not start! Is there an engine shut off switch or relay fuse? Anything!

I've had many bikes, but not that one. Usually there IS a "kill switch" position on the key settings, but hard to hit by accident. However, there are other reasons for the symptom you describe. Out of gas?

My 2007 yamaha 650 v-star classic suddenly quit running one day as i was riding, as if the key was shut off. now it won't start. what causes this?

this happened to my v-star 1100 it turned out to be the voltage regulator had a short and fried the battery and the loss of voltage from the battery caused the bike to quit.

another thing it could be is a short in the kill switch I've seen that happen on quite a few bikes over the years....good luck hope this helps.

My 650 yamaha v-star suddenly quit running while i was riding it as if i shut the key off. why is this

First, check the kill switch and make sure you didn't hit it by accident. It should be on the right handlebar just above the starter button.

Next thing to check for are burned out fuses. You can replace any that are burnt out and see if it will run but if that is it you need to track down why the fuse burnt out.

My wifes 650 Yamaha vstar custom's battery is dead. if i charge it is there a starter relay switch that i will need to change out as well? and should i charge it at 6 amps or 12?

If the starter relay is working properly after you install the fully charged battery, and that means engaging when you hit the button, then there's no reason to replace it. Unless you just want to replace it with something better.

Sprint 900 '96 Won't start.did three weeks ago, tried another battery-nothing.starter relay clicks when power applied directly, side stand switch seems to be ok

If no click from starter relay from switch, check kill switch is off first, then clutch switch, ignition fuse, contacts inside the switch (may be corroded or dirty) check by undoing the wiring connector from the left switchgear & check continuity across the start switch & across the kill switch, also check for continuity from start switch to relay

Hope this helps (if so please mark as very helpful)
