I turned the ignition switch on and the check engine light came on like normal but didnt go out. I started the engine after several attempts and the throttle wouldnt respond(throttle by wire). after starting it several times it finally worked normally. I checked the error codes and came up with P1511 and part numbers pn32933-08 and pn 67557-08a.

To access codes

1- Turn Ignition switch to OFF & Run/Stop switch is to Run.

2- Push odometer reset button in & hold.

3- Turn ignition switch to Ignition and release odometer reset button. Background lighting sould illuminate, speedometer needle should sweep its full range and indicator lamps (battery, security, low fuel, check engine and cruise) should illuminate. The word "diag" should then appear.

4 - Push the odometer reset button once and you will see the selection menu "PSSPt" (on mine the "t" looks more like a "???" )with the first P flashing.

5 - Each letter represents an area of the diagnostics module. The module that is flashing is the one you are going to check. To move from one letter (module) to the next, you push the odometer reset button one time. (from P to S to SP to t and back to P, etc.)
P = ECM/ICM (Electronic Control Module [EFI] / Ignition Control Module [Carbureted])
S = TSM/TSSM (Turn Signal/ Turn Signal Security Module)
SP = speedometer
T = tachometer



To get the DTC within an area of diagnostics, push and hold the odometer reset button in for 5 seconds and release. If there are any DTC's the code will be displayed or the word "none" will appear if there are no DTC's. Push the odometer reset button again to view additional codes if they exist.

1 - Record the codes.

2 - If DTC's are not to be cleared, Press and release the odometer reset button. Part number of module will be displayed.
NOTE: To determine if a code is current or historic, clear the displayed code by pushing in and holding the odometer reset button ( longer than 5 seconds) until 'clear' comes up. Release the odometer reset button. Turn OFF the ignition switch. Run your bike and shut it down then recheck the DTC's again by repeating steps 1 to 3 If the code is current it will reappear.

4 - Press and release the odometer reset button to continue to the next module.

5 - Turn Ignition switch to OFF.

On models not equipped with a tachometer "No Rsp" will appear when the tachometer identifier is selected.

"No Rsp" will also appear if the run/off switch is in the off position when doing this procedure.

Where is the oil sending unit on a 1996 mercury cougar xr7 ? Its cause my oil pressure gauge is bouncing up and down...i dont know why...can anybody please help me thank you so much

The low oil pressure warning lamp will illuminate anytime the ignition switch is turned to the ON position without the engine running. When the engine is running, the light also illuminates if the engine oil pressure drops below a safe oil pressure level. To test the system, perform the following:
If the oil pressure light does not work, perform the following:
  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. If the lamp does not light, check for a broken or disconnected wire around the engine and oil pressure sending unit switch.
  3. If the wire at the connector checks out OK, pull the connector loose from the switch and, with a jumper wire, ground the connector to the engine.
  4. With the ignition switch turned to the ON position, check the warning lamp. If the lamp lights, make sure the oil pressure switch is properly grounded in the cylinder block, and if so replace the oil pressure switch. If the lamp still fails to light, check for a burned out lamp or disconnected socket in the instrument cluster.
To diagnose an oil pressure light that stays on, perform the following:
  1. Check the engine oil level and top off as necessary. If the engine was 2 or more quarts low on oil, test start the engine after topping off the oil level and recheck the oil pressure light operation. If the light stays on, stop the engine immediately and go to the next step.
  2. Disconnect the wire at the sending unit, then turn the ignition switch to theON position. If the light remains on, check the wire from the sending unit to the gauge for being shorted to ground and repair as necessary. If the light goes out, turn the ignition switch OFF and go to the next step.
  3. Replace the oil pressure sending switch with a known good switch.
  4. Start the engine and check the oil pressure light operation. If the light stays on with the engine running, stop the engine immediately to avoid severe engine damage until the cause of the problem can be determined.

WARNING
If the oil pressure light remains on while the engine is started, stop the engine immediately. Do not operate the engine until the cause of the problem can be determined. Operating an engine with low oil pressure will cause severe internal damage.

Possible causes for an oil pressure light to stay on are:


Pinched or grounded sensor wireDefective oil pressure sending unitRestricted or severely leaking oil filterExcessive internal engine bearing clearance.Insufficient or severely contaminated engine oilBlocked oil pump pickup screen or severely worn oil pump

I have a 1996 Astro Van that after running multiple errands and had been parked for approx. 6 hrs. would not start or even turn over. I thought it was the battery but the gauge shows that it is fine. ...

The voltage gauge only says what the battery voltage is. It is entirely possible that the battery's current capability can be severely weak even though the voltage looks normal. An easy check for the start circuit is to turn on the dome light and try to crank the engine. If the dome light doesn't dim and there is no attempt to start, then the battery is not the problem. If the dome light goes very dim or goes out completely, then the battery is too weak to crank the engine. If the battery is not the problem, then since there is no click or anything, the problem could be:
(1) Starter
(2) Neutral safety switch
(3) Ignition switch
(4) Start circuit wiring

I have a 2000 chevy malibu drove it for a few days then the other day went to start it turned the key no dash lights like the battery or any of the others that usually come on the mileage dont come on...

Did you check all the fuses under the hood? That's where the ignition fuses would be. The same "run" wire to the ignition coils, when the key is in on or run, or the same set of run wires out of the ignition switch both to the dash warning lights and gauges, and to the ignition system on the engine, well they're all the same power source, and more so the computer gets power from the ignition switch being on as exhibited by the check engine light turning on when key is turned to on.
It sounds like the ignition switch is either not getting full power in, or it's not sending power out as it should.
Check your other battery power-do you have headlights? That would be entirely separate from the ignition switch, but it verifies that battery power is getting to the fuse and relay block under the hood. Is the cranking speed normal? not too slow?

2003 saturn vue problems

Hate to sound godly but have you removed the battery terminals and cleaned them also the earth or ground cable where it bolts to the chassis ,then to the engine although i suspect it could just be the battery terminal ,Now if you have had a new ignition lock fitted di they change the switch piece on the back of the steering lock ?? because iam surprissed that if you told them the complaint then they didnt check the obvious first or ensure that the job was done correctly or am i just old school who get a car for a light problem but i still check the rest of the car including oil ,washer antifreeze ect before i return the car

Resetting the passlock

1. First, insert the ignition key and turn the ignition switch to the "On" position (Do not start the engine). Leave the switch on for 11 minutes. The security light may flash or be on steady during this 11 minute period. Make sure the light is no longer on or flashing before proceeding to #2 .
2. Turn the ignition switch off for 30 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the "On" position (as in step #1) for 11 minutes again.
4. Turn the ignition switch off for another 30 seconds.
5. Turn the ignition switch to the "On" position for 11 minutes a third time.
6. Turn the ignition switch off for 30 seconds one final time.
7. Turn the ignition switch to the "On" position one final time and wait 30 seconds.
8. Attempt to start the engine. If the engine starts and runs normally, the relearn is complete. If the engine does not start, Go to this link for info

My 96 grand Cherokee wont start.turns but does not start.i need to keep turning ignition on and off several times till i see the gas gauge finally turn on then i can start it.today it didnt start for

try with the antitheft bypass.
the problem seems to be the door switches which are not working giving fasle alarm to anti theft device. use contact cleaners on the door switch with the cabin light active on door open. you may then evaluate wether working or not. check all the doors one by one

95 Impala SS. My Pass Key Fault light is on but the car turns-on and runs normal, but the annoying light continues to stay on.

Try this, it may help. If not your going to have to take it to the dealer and have them hook up the tech2 scanner.
30-Minute Learn Procedure 1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. 2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON; the vehicle will not start. 3. Observe the SECURITY tell tale light. After approximately 10 minutes, the light will turn OFF. 4. Turn OFF the ignition switch, and wait 5 seconds. 5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 - two more times - for a total of 3 cycles of 10 minutes. 3x10 = 30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch turn from OFF to CRANK Important: Turn the Ignition Switch OFF. The vehicle learns the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle. 6. Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password. 7. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed. History DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles. Without a scan tool you may have momentary starter interruptions while history clears itself. Good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted, be glad to help.

Check operation of auto transmission neutral switch; if that is not faulty check 'Start' output from Ignition sw (or start slave relay) is OK;
If all above OK check for faulty starter motor operation.
