My 1997 honda XR200r has no spark. I checked all components execpt the stator and pulse generator. how do you check the stator and how do you check the pulse generator. Is there other bikes with the same parts. Does a '83 ATC 200 have the same pulse generator? What other bikes has the same stator?

check pulse generator circuit for any opens or shorts..even if you still show a weak purplish/red spark its bad..it must be a big bluish/white spark..check plug #1 for spark and then check #3 foe spark if there both week then its your pulse generators that are bad ..but if one of them has a blushish spark then it that systems coil..eg #1and#4 or the #2and #3 coils..
are you testing the spark through a new spark plug? some of these XL models developed a bad pulse generator. It's part of the Stator, I can't imagine it went bad just from sitting though
To check the ignition coil, unplug the wires going to it and check the resistance with an ohm meter. There are two parts of it to check, the primary and secondary circuits. The primary circuit is the low voltage side where the black and green wires from the harness attach. The resistance through this part of the coil should be between 0.16 and 0.19 ohms. Check the secondary side by measuring the resistance between the spark plug lead and the primary side where the green wire was attached. The resistance there should be between 3.69 and 4.51 ohms.
The resistance through the pulse generator, as measured between the two wires that come from it, should be between 468 and 572 ohms.
Generally, the various components of the ignition system are very trouble free. If you're not getting spark to the spark plug, be sure to check all of the bike's wire harness and connectors for corrosion, melted connectors, broken wires, etc.
2003' XR650L, has no spark, stator output 5.8v ac, replaced stator, still no spark, same voltage reading on the new stator, checked pulse generator, found metal fillings stuck to it. book does not show a test for this. HELP.
