I have an '02 sierra 2500 HD 4x4. When i try starting it takes quite a few cranks to start and it is usually sluggish for a few seconds after it starts. Sometimes it will start normal but more often it will not.

Could be stopped up air filter, fuel filter, or weak fuel pump...try cycling the ignition on several (3 or 4) times and see if it starts any faster...sign of a weak fuel pump.

1997 gmc sierra 3500 won't start

When you turn the ignition to start, do you hear the starter turning and the solenoid engaging the flywheel ? test your starter by jumping it and see if the engine turns over. If this works, then you might consider in checking fuel pressure. Do you have any codes in your ECM ?

2003 gmc 2500 hd has spark has 60lbs fuel pressure has compression tried starting fluid won't start

Hi, at this point, I usually see if I can check valve timing without tearing the engine apart. Unfortunately, with a pushrod gasoline engine, which I'm thinking you have, the timing marks are just above the crankshaft. This requires removal of the crank pulley and damper to access the timing cover. :o(
It may be easier but not as definitive to pull off the bank 1 valve cover to see how late after #1 TDC (exhaust stroke) the intake valve is opening. If it's not opening right after TDC, the cylinder will not take a fuel/air charge. Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

starting definately has a lot to do with the crank/cam position sensors, but it wouldnt have nothing to do with hot or cold weather, oxygen sensor will make the vehicle run too rich if its out, you will smell fuel very strong out the exhaust, that could make it run sluggish also, and usually if the mass air flow sensor goes out the vehicle wont start at all...
