Contact me directly at [email protected] and I'll send you a scanned copy of the wiring diagram of your bike. You need to find your starter relay. There is a red wire that goes to it directly from the ignition switch. You need to check for voltage. Then there is another wire that comes from the start switch and a wire that goes to the backside of the starter. If you have a test light, find the single small green wire that plugs onto the backside of the starter. Put your test light into this wire, turn the ignition switch on, and press the start button. It should light the test light. If not, your problem is back up the line from there. If it does, your problem is in the starter. I've looked at the schematics and I can find no link between the headlight not working and starter not working. Have you checked the instrument lights and the tail light? Make sure you check the fuses using the test light. With the ignition switch on, they should have power on BOTH ends of the fuses.
