1980 Kawasaki KZ 1300 A2 will not start wiring issue

I tried changing the kill and start switch so I can just push the start button instead of kicking it.. and I cleaned the carbs the bottom side and the jets... now I can't get it to start...I have no clue to how to hook the switches back up and the neutral switch is not working... I actually didn't do the work I was at work but my friend went back through everything took loose but can't figure it out... I figured it may be on the kill switch and the neutral but not for sure. I need some feedback .... have no idea about this inline four on my 1980 Ltd 1000.. need some help

The switch is the most likely source of the problem. Check it with a volt ohmmeter. Put the key in off and check the terminals. Next turn the key to the 1st position and check the terminals then on any further positions. The next time the bike self starts is when you want to re-check the switch terminals.

You know, this has all the signs of an internal short in the switch. Just tell the dealer to give you a new switch. Switch failure after 5 hours of riding is simply unacceptable.

SOURCE: Hi there any help would be much help. Thanks

Is the spark plug too wet?
Probably theres too much fuel going into the combustion chamber, try to reduce the amount of fuel in the float chamber by first closing the petcock at the tank thn open up the fuel outlet screw at around the carburator float, just a little, close it up, remove the spark plug and clean it dry, refit it and try to start the engine..., adjust the idling screw a little inwards to increase the idling ..thn open up the petcock and observe the running of the engine ..if it starts to puut ..puut thn its for sure there is more fuel going in thn required ..you may hve to adjust the float.
Not bad to check if the carburator at the intake mounting is fitted right wth no air going through inbetween the carb and the intake mounting.
Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Starting fault

There is also a safety switch on the clutch lever that could give the same symptoms.
Another thing to check is the fuse block that has a starter relay built in (hidden) above the fuse compartment. My D5 has the same symptoms and this is the problem. If I keep the starter button depressed for some seconds the relay operates and bike starts.

Wire diagram for kill switch 1988 kawasaki kz 250

I found this diagram in the Kawasaki Z250, KZ305 Manual printed in 1981. Kawasaki's official website also only has the KZ 250 listed in the early 1980's.
An online PDF of this owner's manual can be found here: http://inkandwood.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/kawasaki_kz_250_-_305_79_a_82_-_service_manual.pdf

I have a 1980 kz1300 that starts up but mis fires any ideas?

Basic tune up. May need the carbs cleaned, new plugs/wires, and ignition system gone over, including points cleaning/replacement (if equipped) and checking for proper operation of alternator charge coil and rectifier/regulator.

Ensure battery is properly charged.

Need info on kz 1300 carbs

This link will give you some idea where to begin...

http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/ShopmadeCarbSyncGauge/gauge.html

you will probably need two sets of gauges to do a six cylinder as most synch sets are fours or two's..
