2003 Yamaha Royal Star Venture Questions & Answers
Back tire size for 2003 midnight venture and what
The tire size is 150/90-16, usually "H" rated; Yamaha recommends the Dunlop D404 or the Bridgestone G702. I've had tire life issues with the Bridgestones and just installed Michelin Commanders front and rear - they, and the Dunlop Elite 3's, came highly recommended by Venture riders I've met in the Southwest. I don't have much mileage on the Michelins, so I'm just passing along the results of my inquiries.

Where can I get a replacement rear shock for my
If you don't want to order the replacement from Yamaha http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/service/servicehome/home.aspx, you can do an internet search for either Works Performance or Ohlins, they both make superior rear shocks for the Royal Star.
How do I replace the magneto, I am only getting 12
First off that is not how you check your "charging system" not a magneto! on these bikes you have a Stator that is in the LH side cover on that engine and you need to check the windings for continuity and for short to ground. I would consult a local dealer for voltage output test spec's on the stator. next is the regulator rectifier, this can be tested with a meter and again consult your dealer.
when checking battery voltage while running it is common to have to bring the engine up to a higher speed than idle when testing the charging system, I would advise around 2500~2800 rpm and expect voltage to be 13.5~14.5 volts.
