95' Yamaha Virago 535 will start but will not stay

Did you try to increase the idling adjustment screw?
Check the spark plugs for its condition and thn reset the air-mixture screw.
Standard procedure for setting air-mixture screw...tight it all the way in, taking care to not over tighten or the tip of the screw may be damaged, thn turn outwards 2 & half to 3 turns, start your bike's engine ,run it to normal temp. and the reset the screw + - alittle either way and you should notice the difference in the idling and all.
Its better too, to also check the valve clearance !
Hope this helps!

If pulling in the clutch allows the rear wheel to roll, then we know the problem is not in the final drive or the transmission countershaft. What we still don't know is if it is the engine (crank, pistons, cams) or main shaft in the transmission. At this point, I suggest taking out both spark plugs, removing the PLUG, STRAIGHT SCREW from the left side of the crankcase, then put a socket on the nut you see inside there and rotate the crankshaft counter clockwise. When you hit the spots where the cams are trying to lift the valves, you will feel resistance, but, it should still turn. If it does not turn, something has seized, either the crank or pistons, possibly the cams, but that is not good, and can be expensive to repair.

SPARK PLUGS SPECIFICATION

According to the service manual, the spark gap should be 0.7-0.8 mm,for most of these bikes. standard plugs NGK BP7ES or BPR7ES, the difference is an incorporated series resistor in the "R" plug) seem to come factory-set to that gap.

How do i adjust the idle on my 1995 yamaha virago

On most bikes and four wheelers, this is done by a throttle stop. the position of the stop is usually adjusted by a screw. Remove the tank. turn throttle and see what moves by the carb/ injectors. When you return throttle to idle, the moving piece will come to rest on the throttle stop. You can now adjust its position by turning that screw.

Bike has sat up for a year or so,wont start, cranks

If no fuel stabilizer was added while the bike sat for a year or so.
It is most likely bad fuel with gum deposits.
This can can create some problematic symptoms for you.

It is vital the bad fuel to be cleared from tank/lines and carbs.
You may need the fuel system cleaned as the gum deposits can cause major headaches in the carbs and jets. If the system is not cleaned and even after you get the bike running, you could be miles away and have the fuel fowl jets/injectors, causing shut down.

Check the spark plugs carefully. Oil on the plugs may just need cleaning. Once you get the bike running the oil should burn off if the rings are still in good shape.

Motor needs clean Air, Clean Gas and a hot spark.

Good luck!

1990 Virago starting problem

These starters work Likrk by binding a roller which grips the crank shft end to rotate it.. If either the roller or the crank end surface wear too much, the starter will turn without grabbing or slip entirely not cranking over the engine.. Repair soon or serious damage can result.

95 xv750 Virago fuel leak

Probabilly a stuk carburettor float or needle.
Try to solve this problem to gently tap on the carburettor bodies. If this doesn't help you have to clean out the carburettors, and/or replace the float neeldes

I dont believe this bike has a rectifier, just a generator, located in the bottom forward engine case. You can test the generator by charging the battery, put the bike on the center stand, attach a DC volt meter to the pos and neg of the battery and run the engine, the volt meter will show 13.6 - 14 volts if the generator works. It is possible you got a battery with a dead cell causing it to never get fully charged... sometimes they're dropped during shipping and other handling. charge the battery and check the voltage, if it seems good, take it out bring it to an auto store and ask them to load test the battery, theyll do it free at most places. if it fails...the battery you got was a dud, take your receipt to the store you bought it and explain what happened and they should honor their service and replace it free. good luck. if the bat is good and the alternator is not charging there are a few other directions to go...

I have a 1995 vx535 it starts with the choke on.

  • Lets do the basics first. Shut off the gas then remove the water trap from the petcock ( gas valve ). Clean the trap then drain the carbs. This will eliminate any water in the fuel system.
  • Now it gets a bit tougher. If the fuel system is not the problem then it sounds like time to remove and clean the carbs. The carbs could have varnished up over the winter. Since you have the carbs off, Consider a carb kit. After all, the bike is 14 years old. Main jet seals could be the problem as opposed to varnish. Be sure to balance and sync the carbs after installation.
This should solve the problem. Please rate this solution after all is done. Thanks.
