Header pipe on my xv535 yamaha glowing red hot

Do not run this engine any more!!.. Is the exhaust stopped up? This is the first thing I would check, Remove the exhaust - you should be able to use your mouth to blow from the engine side and feel the pressure out the back.- birds, rats, cats, etc. can be in there! Has this engine been locked up (flooded with fuel, flooded with water?.. and then tried to be started?? If so the the cylinder exhaust that gets red hot MIGHT have a bent connecting rod!! I saw this happen on a racing ATV once,,it flooded, they tried to pull start it.. once it cleaned out and ran - the exhaust got RED hot.. -- Bent con-rod!!

Virago blowing out through air filter

Will, let me tell you the "Old school" way to fix this.(1) Remove all of the spark plugs. (2) Disconnect the fuel lines. (3) Pour light weight oil directly into the heads.(I know, sounds weird) (4) Crank Crank Crank Crank. Until the engine turns smoothly. If the valves were stuck, this should cure it! (5) Blow the oil out by the compression of the engine cranking. (6) Pour alcalhol into the cylindars to clean the oil out of the top of the pistons.(Starting fluid also works well) (7) Again, Blow it out using the compression of the engine. (8) Put everything back together and fire it up! NOTE!!!! Any time you know you are going to store anything with an internal combustion engine, treat the engine in the same way, by pouring oil into, and onto the pistons directly. This prevents seize ups, and helps to preserve oil seals. ^^

No power to 1994 Yamaha virago xv535 batterygood

Hi ok try the key switch follow the wires back u will find a 4 pin white connector disconnect it, then get two small pieces of wire and short them across each other ,so if u look at the wires there are two the same thickness 2.5 sqso these go together ,and the other two are 1.0 sq so these are shorted to each other one set is the control voltage for egnition the other is the starter circuit ,see how this goes ,if this is the problem the take the key switch out and clean it contact cleaner will do, don't forget to grease it after , also the fuse holder may be eroided so double check the out puts if a white coating then clean or and replace the fuses

Virago loses power on higher speed ?

I think the boots that is the rubber pipe going on to the engine from the carburettor ay have a hole or not be sitting quite right , on the side of the engine ,you can test this quite easy ,turn on the bike idle it as normal ,then spray carb cleaner on and around the boots it will make the bike race slightly this means there's a hole and air is been drawn in so mix ratio is wrong so loss of power ,do this to both boots hope this helps

Welding '94 Virago 535 starter clutch

Any thing can be done, but. You would need a welder who knows their materials, types of metals. The biggest problem I can forsee is a distortin of the metal then you need a machine shop with a surface grinder to true it up again. I personally think it will be more trouble than it's worth

1992 Yamaha Virago 1100 starter

Hi and welcome to the site,

Initially, is there a clicking sound? If yes, then check the starter relay. Temporarily jump the 2 big terminals. To locate the starter relay, follow the big cable from the battery's + terminal.

Good luck and thank you for asking.

What type of oil should I use for my used 1994

Your machine came from Yamaha with 20w-40 JASO MA motorcycle oil. Use any oil that has the JASO MA rating on the label. 10W-40 for cooler climate and 20W-50 for warmer climates. Do not use any oil that says "Energy Conserving" on the label, they can shorten the life of your wet clutch and transmission gears. Synthetic oils will help your engine run cooler and shift easier. An inexpensive full synthetic oil that is JASO MA rated and available every where is Shell Rotella T 15W-40 synthetic oil (about $23 a gallon).
