My 535 ran great until a few months ago when it

The clicking is the sound of the solenoid not engaging. If your battery is not low - the solenoid should enc=gage properly. If the battery is charged - then I would replace the solenoid. The cylinder under the seat may be the solenoid. If it has a spark plug type of wire coming from it - it is the coil. If the wires (large ones) go to the starter - it is your solenoid. Let me know if this helps. Thanks

Starter is spinning but bike

The one way clutch in the motor grabs a gear with a smooth cylinder sticking out of the side of it. The smooth surface of the gear is now chattered and the one way clutch will not grab it. You will have to replace the large gear and possibly the one way clutch. The one way clutch should be located under the left crankcase cover bolted to the to the flywheel . The starter gear that probably is most of the problem is inserted into the starter clutch between the flywheel and the crankshaft/crankcase. You will have to pull the flywheel to do a proper inspection.

My '95 Virago 535 (35,000 km) does not disengage

Hi! You may want to check the clutch itself. Since you fixed the external parts maybe it's time to check the internal. Hope this helps and thank you for using Fixya!

RecommendedTyre Pressures

A tyre pressure of about 20 to 22 psi inthe front and 28-30psi inthe rear would be good enough.
But I like to add that each one much take his own taste of finding the road grip with a personal touch depending also on the weight of the person/persons.

I have a xv535 that has sat for some years.

The neutral switch is wired from gearbox selector barrel, internally.
Clutch normally binds when left unused even for a week for some bikes. Oil choice can help but not markedly.
Top and bottom clutch cable is adjustment for free play (top) and amount of take-up and return (bottom).
The wire or cable (if electrical) is to ensure bike cannot be STARTED in gear with clutch engaged.
Issues maybe arising from gummed carby's, some carby cleaner flush should sort it out. Check also inlet manifold has not cracked or split.
Cheers.

To me it sounds like the coil is breaking down and not working at higher RPM's. You can take them off and have them tested at a service shop.

I need to know how long the stand?

Lean bike as close as vertical as you can with throttle side against a wall. Let bike rest normally on suspension and place a housebrick or 3 inch (75mm) block 12 inches (300mm) away from sidestand mounting point. Measure the distance from this mouint point to top of block. This is the optimum length. Use frame quality tubing and solid steel lugs. Check return space along swingarm also. Cheers.

HAS A DEAD SPOT JUST WHEN I TAKE OFF RUNS FINE

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, inspect the burn colors of the sparkplugs. If they are very light in color, then it would indicate a lean mix

Offhand, a lean mix and the flat spot would both indicate an air leak; too much air, too little fuel. Either or both could be caused by a torn or out of position air filter or the air box not properly sealed. Aftermarket free air breathers/filters such as those by K & N and/or non-stock exhaust could also cause lean mix/flat spot if the carbs were not re-jetted. In some instances, the needle height might require adjustment.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.
