1993 yamaha xv535 - headlight issue

The fuse box is located under the seat of the bike near the fuel filter it should be the 10A fuse next to the Main fuse (the 30A). if the fuse is ok and the high beam works, it sounds like there is a issue with the low beam wire. If that is the case then the lamp plug should have 3 wires on the back, yellow for High beam, green for Low beam, and black for Ground. then start test the green wire to see if you have power, if not at the plug then check at the dimmer switch, if not there then the start switch. 89_96_us_xv535.jpg

My yamaha virago 535cc has

I wouldn't expect that a week sitting would have any significant effect of it starting. However if the climate you are in is very hot and dry then it's possible that the fuel in the carburetor(s) has evaporated. Also if the battery is weak you may be using all available power to crank the engine over with the electric start leaving less then 10 volts for the ignition system which will not work under that voltage. SO there are two possibles here, first make sure the battery is fully charged try it again if it doesn't start then the greater possibility lies in the carburetor. Tapping the carburetor lightly with a small metal object like the handle end of a ratchet wrench or the hard plastic end of a screwdriver may dislodge the float and allow fuel to flow into the float bowl area and fill the carburetor and allow it to start. If you are in a cold climate with a temperature around 50F (10c) then the motorcycle may need to use the choke heavier and also the battery will produce less power when cold. Charge the battery and use the choke heavier. Cold weather and motorcycles don't play well together.

Yamaha 535 stalling out and losing power after running for a bit

Sounds like a fueling problem either water in the carbs or the fuel flow from the tap is insufficient. If there is a vacuum pipe it may have been dislodged or holed.

Won't idle without choke

The pilot jet controls the air/gas fuel mix at idle . If the jet gets plugged up not enough gas gets to the emgine at idle. You will need to remove the carbs and float bowls and clean them, paying special attention to the pilot valve. Count the number of turns to remove the pilot screw and replace the same number of turns then turn counter clockwise 1/2 turn.

A “very helpful” rating for this answer? Thanks!

My XV125 will only run on tick-over until warm....

ALWAYS have a fire extinguisher on hand when working on carburetors.
Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Is there any water or trash in the bowl? Drain a cup of gas from the tank. Is there any water or trash in the cup? Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, ( not all bikes have a water trap bowl ).

Drain the carburetor. There should be a screw on the lower side of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carb to fill with gas. Install a new stock NGK spark plug and try to start the engine. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the
carb and spray into the screw holes as well.
< < READ CLOSELY > >
Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two adjusters down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each adjuster one and one half turns outward. Before putting the slide back in the throat of the carb, move the clip on the jet needle one notch lower. Put the rest of the
carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. This process should get you back on the road.

Please rate this solution. Thanks!
