Virago 535 not starting

Sounds like:
A: The starter clutch is slipping and not letting the starter engage the crankshaft
B. The carbs need to be cleaned. If ti has sat unused for more than 30 days, the pilot jets are clogged up causing it to stall (off choke) and be sluggish on acceleration off idle.

My 1986 virago 700 pps and spits when i give it gas wat could be causing this

Sounds like a blocked main jet caused by fuel residue..This is common after the winter or if the bike has been stood for a short time.. As the fuel evaporates it leaves a crystalline residue. You will need to strip carbs and clean jets and fuel ways with a carb cleaner.. it comes in an aerosol so its an easy job but care is needed dismantling and reassembling. don't be tempted to poke any wire or alike in the jets to clear them through.. cleaner and air only.. hope this helps.

Hi my virago 535 1995 model blows the main fuse

All electrical circuits regardless of voltage or polarity require 2 sides or "legs" of power referred to as L-1 or Line 1 & L-2 or Line 2.Positive and Negative in this case being 12 volt DC, households will have 1 hot leg and a Neutral for 115v or 2 hot legs and a ground for 230volt circuits, regardless all circuits require 2 sides of power.All circuits require a switch to control the circuitand all circuits require a "load" or device as in a light or horn etc.Any circuit without a device or load is a direct short, same as if you laid a wrench across the terminals of a car battery.A correct load will have just the right amount of resistance to not pull excessive amperage, i those cases a fuse may slow blow, or bake awhile to blow, while a direct short blows right now no waiting at all.

Rear wheel removal1989 Yamaha xv750 Virago.

hi, you are doing everything correct, however from time to time they do get seized, i would recomend you replace the nut, slightly open up the grove in the rh side of the swinging arm where you have removed the pinch bolt, and using a heavy hammer give the axle a sharp blow, from the nut side do not fit the nut fully leave some space between it and the diff for movment, then if after a couple of blows it moves some, then undo the nut some more and hit it again, if the spindle has now moved knock it back in the other way to losen it off, you cannot drive it out from brake side it has to come from left and exit on the right of the bike , if i can be any further help pls email me ,paul

starter clutch not releasing (It is a one way clutch) or bad brushes in the stater. Viragos are known for bad starters. Check and see if the starter is hot after you try to start it.If it is you should remove starter and have it checked /rebuilt or repaced

Yamaha virago 535 not charging on new battery and

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Charging problems could either be a stator issue or a failed rectifier/regulator combo. To check:
  • measure the battery voltage with the engine off;
  • start the bike and measure it again, it should be slightly higher;
  • rev the bike, the voltage should rise as the RPM increases;
  • measure the voltage by pairs on the 3 white wires from the stator;
  • there should be AC voltage that increases as the RPM ncreases.
This of course presumes that the wiring, connectors, terminals have been checked, cleaned and tightened.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa.

94 yamaha 535 virago sounds fine, just wont start

Check to make sure your getting gas by pulling off the hose, if no gas comes out your petcock is clogged. If this is the case blow air up into the hose, and if gas comes out now your tank has to be cleaned out.

If it is possible to start at all. Fresh fuel fresh engine oil good battery. You may have the following problems; Corroded and blocked carburetor fuel system, bad wire connections piston ring set up.... I hope it was kept indoors and the fuel was drained out before it was left sitting. Good luck, they are nice bikes.
