1998 ST starts from cold

It sounds like the alt is having charging problems. A good or new battery will build itself up after it sits by itself. You can take it to Auto Zone and have themtest the charging system while it is running. Does your lights come on automatically when you start the bike? If so check your charging system. Hope this helps please leave a comment.

2001 Triumph Sprint ST 955i,

This is a common problem with this bike, and does not mean that the engine is overheating.Go to www.triumphnet.com and click on the "mods" link for a solution.
They show photos of the modification which basically consists of installing a mesh screen on the inside of the fairing to channel the heat away from your leg. Also the upper fairing vent is enlarged to aid heat disipation.

99 triumph sprint st, just given engine a full

Hi, there is no other way to reset the engine light than to ride the bike. Don't worry about the light. If there is nothing wrong, the light will go off automatically after three start-run-stop sequences (the light will go out after 3 "heat cycles".). You cannot fool the Engine Management System, you must actually ride the bike.

If after the 3 start-run-stop sequence (3"heat cycles") the light still stays on, then you have to carry out some check on it again....

How do you tighten the chain on a signle sided

There is a bolt (17mm I believe) in back of the axle and to the right of the chain. Loosen this bolt and using a hook spanner on the notched ring which is on an eccentric, turn forward to reduce chain slack. If you have the Triumph tool kit there should a spanner with an extension handle included. Otherwise buy or borrow an adjustable spanner that will fit the notched ring. (About six inches in diameter.) The torque on the clamp bolt is about 40.6 lbs. (55 Nm)

Loose drive chain

You have a big nut on one end of the axle, and the 2 adj screws on either side at the end of the fork. Loosen the nut, tighten the adj, if your bike doesn't have marks on it, make some now before you move it, then move no more than 1/8 inch off the mark you made. Tighten up the axle, you are all set, the chain should have a little slop to it, 1/2 min, Hope this helps.

Overfuelling

check your oil level that you you have not overfilled your engine oil.
Other problems that can cause smoking for instance your bike was stored with fuel in it and the petcock was not shut or diapham is bad causing fuel to seep into the engine raising the oil level not good.
other problem you have a scored or scratched cylinder wall passing oil past the rings.
major work.
