Pull the fuel hose off to see if fuel will run out when the fuel tap is 'on'. If nothing, check the tap filter screen for plugging and clean it with spray carburetor cleaner. If you get fuel to run out, try checking the float needle in the carburetor for sticking.

My GZ bogs down when

The most common possibilities for this problem are:---1) Clogged main jet. 2) Clogged needle jet. 3) Improperly working throttle valve and 4) Clogged fuel filter.
Make sure that the carberauter vent tube is not blocked or pinched off.It is the plug in the bottom of the drain tube on the air box?
Since it idles fine, you could rule out air leaks before the carburetor.
Did you try starting it (full choke) and wait say half a minute before opening the throttle ?
-------- If it runs that way with full choke ON.Then the jets are clogged and both jets and carb needs to be cleaned and checked.But if that is not helping then jets needs to be replaced, by taking the carb apart.------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

My suzuki 2001 gz250 wont start

Fuel from the tank is not being delivered to the engine. Trace the hose from the fuel tap down to the carburetor (fuel injector) and remove the hose. Fuel should run freely in a thin stream from the hose while the fuel tap is 'on'. If nothing or almost nothing, check the filter screen in the fuel tap for plugging--soak in spray-can-carburetor cleaner for a while, then retry fuel from the hose.

Choke is working only has 5000km on bike and once

It seems the carb/s flooding with fuel and thus it dies, try to reset the float pin and get the correct level of the fuel in the float chamber.
Standard procedure for air-mixture screw setting is u take the screw right in slowly taking care not to over tighten it as it may damage the tip of the screw.
Warm up your bike's engine and thn slowly turn anti clockwise the air-mixture screw to about 2 & a half turns and observe the engine's idling.
Before you attempt this setting(air-mixture) its better too, to replace the spark plug and set the gap to the specs of your bike's engine and check and adjust accordingly the valve clearance.
Hope this helps!

Problem start bike.

Sounds like a bad battery. Try charging overnight with a 1 or 2 amp charger.
If this doesn't help then go to the dealer and ask for the stock plugs for your bike. Check for spark on each of the new plugs then install the plugs.

Remove the carbs , dissemble it and clean the varnish out. Remove the petcock, ( gas valve ),water trap and clean it out. Next let one cup of gas flow into a container. Any water or rust in the bottom of the container? If any rust was in the water trap or the container then purchase an inline fuel filter to eliminate the rust getting into the carb.

If cleaning the carb yourself does not do the trick then take it to the dealer and have them clean it and install a carb kit. This should eliminate the carb as a problem. Get a new air filter and install it.

Now you have spark, gas and air. If it still will not start it is likely that you need new crank seals. On a bike that old you may well need new crank bearings as well.

My son just called to

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, what could be suggested are:
  • remove the fuel hose end connected to the carb;
  • fit that freed end to a suitable container;
  • depending on the version, PRI setting of the fuel valve/control would make the fuel in the tank to flow;
  • if PRI is not available, the smaller hose leading to the carb/rubber coupling from the valve would have to have a vacuum to enable fuel flow;
  • alternately, the entire tank could be removed and inverted to remove the fuel inside;
  • there are drain screws at the very bottom of each carb to remove the fuel inside the bowl;
  • flushing the tank with gasoline would help after diesel removal;
  • if diesel was removed and replaced with appropriate gasoline, it is possible bike may run a little rough for a bit of time;
  • your suggestion of siphon will work, no need for the rag (though not a bad idea).
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

I bought a new battery,

One explanation for this would be that your charging system is faulty. It is possible that the OLD battery was ok, but was not getting charged by the faulty charge system. You put in a new battery, that is part charged before sale and ran the battery flat because it wasn't charging. If you leave a discharged lead acid bettery for 20 minutes or so, it will pick up a little again and possibly let the bike start and run, but by the time you got home you had killed the battery completely.

All the facts fit, though I'm not promising that it is the problem.

Take the battery off and charge it with a charger. Now, put it back on the bike and run the bike (It should start) While the battery is on the bike, get a volt meter on it. It should read slightly over voltage (doesn't matter if its a 12 or 6 volt system, it will read a little over when the bike is running) when you turn the engine off, you should see the volt meter drop down to the stated battery voltage. If you get no hike with the engine running and drop as you power off, its a good sign the charging system is faulty. A similar test, start the bike, meter the battery and turn on the indicators, stop light and head light to pull as much power as you can, the battery voltage shouldn't dip, because the charge system should compensate. If it does dip, consider this a confirmation that the charging system is faulty.
