1996 Suzuki Savage 650, engine knocks
knocking increases with engine speed ...check for worn wrist pin to piston clearance, rod bottom bearing clearance, very unlikely the timing chain has any kinks with a chain tensioner set properly...a loose chain could make some noise so check the tension setting
How do i diagnose a faulty neutral switch?? light
The neutral switch is lockated at the left side of the engine. Should have a blue wire... Comes together with a black wire ( oil pressure switch ) in a 2-position connector to the main harness.
Try if works fine with the blue wire at the ground and loose. If then everything is OK, the neutral switch is out of use.
There is also a diode set in the circuitry. With a green wire coming from the side stand switch, the blue wire from the neutral switch and a lightblue wire going to the dashboard. +12V on this light blue wire should lit up neutral lamp at the dashboard.
Hope it helps.
Removal of fuel tank to change spark plug
There should be a bolt towards the bottom of the tank. You will have to remove Your seat to see it. Undo the bolt and slide it out. Shut off the (petcock) fuel valve first. You don't need to take off the fuel line. There should be 2 other hoses under it aswell. You may need to reconnect them if they come off.
2002 suzuki LS 650 running lean at higher speeds, (off idle)
this prob happens allways in carburated engines that the car or motorcycle is running lean or rich . because the air - fuel mixture ratio is not right . so you should open the carburator and remove the air filter you will find two screws in the lower front section of your caeburator. you can adjust them by a screw driver until your car is smooth
Fuel cock and vacuum diagrams
Where the carbs join the engine there are mainfold rubbers between. On each rubber should be a pin with a rubber cover plug (or without-not sure about the model) The vacuum lines need to be plug each on each pin.
Bike stalls in high gears when cruising around 45-50MPH
Could be your spark plugs, or maybe your side stand as some bikes if not all of them now have a switch on the side stand which prevents the rider from starting the bike if the stand is extended. So if the spring which retracts the stand is slightly lose, it pulls on the switch and cuts off power. Im not an expert but just check these.
Could also be that your carbs are dirty. So just give them a bit of a service and check for any blockages in there.
1996 Suzuki Savage 650 backfires on cutoff
I had the same prob with my 97, It was not the head gasket but the O-ring on top of the head. Replaced the O-ring and has been running good for a year now with no backfire. Hope this helps.

What determines a bad o ring
"O"-Rings are normally used to seal, so if you have a connection that uses a "O" ring, and you see either fluid or air leaking around the "O" ring, than it is a good bet the "O" ring is bad. they are made of neoprene rubber and can take alot of heat and abuse. they are srtong, but weather and time and heat break them down over time, so look for signs of leaking. I had a bad "O" ring around one of my fuel injectors in my jeep and it was causing a high idle because it was leaking air, so pay close attention to "O" rings when they have been in service for a long time.

Take off the right hand side crankcase cover, remove the tensioner and the chain's guides and hook the chain to the crankshaft's gear and then pull it up through the cylinder and cylinder head and install the guides back. The crankcase cover will be placed on the engine last, after you have finished with timing your camshaft and have the tensioner installed.
