Big thumb screw in the bbottom of carb ?

Andrew,Were not sure of how to specifically answer your question. Most all brands of Carburetors usually have a thumb screw that adjusts the slide stop. This adjusts your idle speed when you release the hand throttle. Sometimes it helps cold starting by backing it out an additional turn to allow the slide to bottom out and minimizes air intake for the choke to work better. There is also a thumb screw for the air mixture. This one is usually smaller and it's to run it all the way home and then back it out a turn and a half. 1/4 to 1/2 turn either way usually smooths the engine out. Many carburetors have a drain screw on the bottom to empty the float bowl. This is usually larger and requires a wrench. Let us know if this helps. If you could provide more information on the bike we could refer you to screen shots of the parts and better info on how they work.Kind regards,TerryTown

Hi how much gear box

change the transmission oil run the engine warm and set up the motorcycle

on a horizontal surface. Remove the oil drain screw and drain used oil

into a container. Clean the magnet of the oil drain screw and reinstall oil drain

screw with seal. Pour in 0.7 litres engine oil (e. g. Motorex Top Speed 4T

15W50), replace plug and check engine for leaks.

TRANSMISSION AND CLUTCH WILL BE SUBJECT TO EXCESSIVE WEAR AND TEAR,

IF YOU USE TOO LITTLE OR LOW GRADE OIL. USE ONLY HIGH-GRADE OIL (E. G.
MOTOREX TOP SPEED 4T 15W50).

The gray color(if it's milky) may be water and may mean that your water pump seals are leaking. Check your radiator level, it should tell you. Be sure to replace both and check the waterpump shaft for corrosion in the seal area. If there is, replace the shaft, too, or the problem will occur again.

If you don't feel that you have water in the oil, it may be that your right crank seal is blown. This will pressurise the clutch and tranny area and likely blow oil some out of any place it can on the right side. If this is the case, the engine will have to be pulled and completely disassembled to replace your crank seals and possibly the main crank bearings.

Ktm output shaft oil seal

if you are lucky there is a clip behind the front sprocket remove both then pop the seal out drain gear box oil first though. if not which i think is most probable the engine will need splitting if you are good with spanners it is quite easy being a 2 stroke .in brief remove engine remove bore and carb in one lump remove sprocket gear lever split g-box .seal up push old seal out, from outside in, fit new then reverse prosses. a good manual will help.

Fuel becomes like a gel substance if the bike was not used for some time. There may be some gel blocking the main jet of your carburetor. If the gel formed in the tank, it may take a while to reach the carburetor. That may be why it operated without a problem for a while.

1995 KTM 250-EXC Buring Oil

g'day Murray! Could actually be a couple of things.I'll try to eliminate them by degree of difficulty and cost. first up make sure your carb jetting is correct and nothing has come loose inside the carby to cause an overly rich mixture. Is your air filter in good condition ??.Lets presume you've kept up a good maintainance regime on ya beast.Next i would check your radiator levels to make sure the tank levels are not dropping as this will indicate leaking fluid possibly via a head gasket leak into the combustion chamber , then i'd go for the right hand crank seal, especially if your gearbox oil level is low , thats the rather large seal behind the drive gear on the end of the crankshaft on the clutch side(right side sitting on bike). You'll have to remove the nut, check for an "L"mark indicating left hand thread, remove the gear and spacer and there may be an "O" ring behind the spacer as well, milk it off carefully, prise out the seal with a.....Heh you guessed it....Seal puller, not the type our eskimo friends use...HAHAHAAAA...THEn tap in the new seal with a socket that fit the outer bearing surface of the seal keep it squared, and then.... SSSHHHHMMMOOOOOOSSHHH...YOUR DONE.You really need to access how much work the engine has done, when was the last top end rebuild done etc???.Could be worth while doin the whole lot in one hit if you've got the coin..Oh yeah , here's the part number for the Winderosa seal kit, its: 822326. hope i could help ya out ..MUZZA.Goodluck...regards..Tilleydog

Handling

no problems all good news so im looking into one but not sure what to get a 250 or 450 ive riden Both in a honda and kawi but none of the KTM's yet.. so yea any ome got any advice..gonna be riden in the winter 2 oncei get some studed tires so yea but yea thanksDefinitely try and ride a couple. I rode the 525SX and a 200SX a couple years ago and they were a blast. They do tend to have that Euro handling which is a little different than the Japanese bikes, but you'll get used to it rather quickly. The 525 I rode was slimmer than my YZ, which made it a little difficult for me to grip, but I think they've changed the geometry of the bikes a little bit over the years, and I hear they've gotten most of the suspension bugs fixed. Definitely try and ride some and see what you think.,,,
