try slackening adjusters each end of cable

hiyaThis is normal, my 87' would do the same thing. There are two mod's all KLR owners should do...1. Install an overide switch for the fan, mine is a three way auto.off.on2. Cut off switch for the lights.(Great for crawling around off road)The overide switch for the fan helps keep the temp down below the red. Now, I have never sat in a traffic jam on a 100 day, but it has helped with everything else thusfarhope this helpsJohn

There is no reason the shop would have touched this nut to change a tyre, so it may be coincidence it had rattled loose.unless they did other work like head bearing adjustment

It may help to loosen the top triple clamp pinch bolts.
Check the steering head bearings for play, as the lock nut may have loosened as well.
cant help with exact torque, but tighten it fairly well with out going crazy on it

on the flywheel there should be a timing mark, that has to line up not sure on this certain model where its suppsed to go but a manuel should have that in there

check the magnito for rust,If you stor something it will draw moisture and rust the mag so that it isnt making contact with the coil.

Check battery and battery connections are clean (wire brush them) and tight.

check the kick stand switch, i fixed a bike that had the same problem and it turned out to just be the switch

Is it possible your clutches are so warn they do not engage?
