Backfires during deceleration
Check a spark plug for color. A white plug means that it's too lean (Not enough fuel) They will pop when lean on decel!
Motorcycle won't start
When you go to turn it on does it try to crank over or does it do nothing? When you go to turn it on and your regular lights come on do they shut off when you go to turn on the engine on? If that happends then you might have a dead battery. If you battery is dead your next question is why. Did something not get turned off or is the altinator or stator (not being that fimilure with your bike im not sure which one it has) not chargeing the battery or is the battery just not good any more. Make sure that your battery is hooked up right and there is no corrotion on the battery. If that is ok check the battery with a volt meter. If the battery is not regestering at least 11 volts its going to need charged. It should have right about 12.5 volts when charged. When you go to crank over the motor with your charged battery put your volt meter back on the battery. If the volts on the battery go below 9 volts your battery is shot and you will need another one. So now that we have made sure that the battery is good or not or if you know that the motor is trying to crank over you want to check the spark plugs. You are going to want to take out the spark plug out and hold it to the engine on an unpainted surface so that the screw part of the plug is touching the engine with pliers with rubber grips( the amount of volts traveling thru the spark plug is enough to hurt really bad dont hold it with your hand) and make sure you leave the black cap on the back of it. Now watch the gap in the spark plug while holding it and starting the engine. If there is a good consistant spark in the gap your plug is good do this with all of the spark plugs. If they do not then replace them and try to start the engine. Also look at the spark plug bottom where the gap is if its full of carbon they might be old or you are running to much air. If they are white then you are running to rich and there is to much gas in your air fuel mixture. If you have switched out spark plugs and are still not getting any spark then you are going to want to use your volt meter and check the coils and see of you are getting any voltage out of them if not then check and see if you are getting any volts to them. If you are getting power to the coils but nothing out its your coils if ther is no power getting to it then you need to follow the wiring back untill you find the problem. If your not cranking over at all but your battery is good then you want to make sure that your starter is good. Find your starter and check and make sure you are getting power to it by hooking it up to your volt meter and trying to turn over the engine. Make sure your ground is connected tight. If the ground is good and there is no power, there should be a wire going from your battery to a relay to the starter motor. Take your volt meter to the battery to the relay make sure you wire is good. Now make sure your relay is good by putting your volt meter to the in and out of the relay and try to start the motor if you get nothing the relay is fried. If that is good go from the relay to the starter and make sure your wire is good.If it is not your battery and your getting good compression and good spark how long has it been since it ran last if you get to this point i have alot of questions to ask and you should email me so i can explain how to check your fuel system to you because it will be as long. Good luck and I hope you can figure it out and feel free to email me at any timeA.J. Weaver
Backfiring on decelaration
there r 2 types of backfire-intake relating to valves n timing and exhaust-unburned fuel either way--ajust these causes and chec out carburation also
How to change oil on a 2003 Kawasaki Vulcan 750
Firstly run your engine till you reach its normal running temp .The engine drain plug will be found under neath the engine normally at the lowest part .Warm oil drains out of the engine much more quickly that cold oil ..when all the oil stops dripping then remove the oil filter ,make sure that the sealing ring is removed ,take care the oil in the filter will be very hot .replace with your new filter make sure you do not cross thread the oil filter unit and any seals have been fitted . Refit your drain plug and fill up to the required level . start engine ,your oil level will drop because the oil filter will fill up and the new oil will be pumped around the engine. make sure that the engine level is topped up when all the oil has reached all the parts of the engine .Do not over fill the engine as this will cause unwanted pressure .and oil leaks .Remember to replace the oil filler cap and that its tight .
Backfiring and missing
It sounds like you have a stuck valve. Without major work, try to get it running and spray come carb cleaner in it.

Hi.
I have just sent you a comment on a different thread. I see that you posted the same question on separate thread. I am also posting here as I do not know if you are following both thread. Better to keep the problem on a single thread. Below my previous comment:
Hi.
There
is no "diagram" showing the whole routing of fuel lines in the bike.
You need to use different diagrams in Fuel System section of the service
manual. Fuel system section starts at page 15 in service manual, but
what you really need starts at page 40. I have posted fuel service
manual at the end of comment.
There is one forum where users
discussed the routing. One user has colored the diagram from service
manual to indicate lines routing. Here the diagram:
Here the forum, I quote:
"The red and yellow are the fuel lines that go to the petcock. The green
one you left unmarked also goes to the petcock. The line with a question
mark is a vacuum line that connects to a part in front of the battery
along with the larger lines to the cylinders."
Here the service manual in PDF format.

I have a vn750 that
Just measure the voltage at the battery with the engine idling - in a normal system you should have around 14.2 volts. If its lowerthan that you will need to measure the voltage given by the stator, it should be above 14 volts AC. if you get that then the rectifier is defective, if you get less it's the stator itself.
Beware, the stator should be the 6 wire version, the cheap chinese copies, with 5 wires, are *******, they don't deliver more than 13 volts so it can't charge the battery.
AFTER YOU HAVE DRIVEN OVER
If the problem worsens as the engine gets warmer, than it is mostly likely running too rich...The engine uses more fuel at start up when its cold, so if its running rich there will be more fuel than is necessary when it warms up. Lean the fuel mixture a bit.-----------
Also other possibility is faulty starter relay, the relay getting stuck when engine warmed and releases when engine is cold.Check the starter and starter relay. If all checked ok, then battery is the issue.Try with another battery, this will confirm the problem. This will help.
Thanks.Helpmech.
