1999 Kawasaki ZX-9R Ninja will not turn over

Test the battery, bike batteries can and do just go open and dead all of a sudden, have been stranded more than once, filled with gas and then no start nothing, no lights nothing.

Removing seized spark plugs

ok if ur bike was running before replace the plugs and warm it up to a hot temp and then try removing the plug adding lots of WD40 use a proper spark plug socket that connects to a extension bar and onto a socket ratchet ( not from the standard tool kit that comes with the bike) keep the set up nice and straight over the plug and turn it anti clock wise .... when you need to start using lots of pressure do this by one hand on the extension bar and the other on the ratchet . if this fails you will need to get some metal pipe to slip over the ratchet handle to increase the leverage ( maybe a 12 inch pipe) the plug will come out if not give someone else a go at it that is more handy than you are. why this has happened is because who ever installed the plug over tightened it . the recommended way is ...................... to add very small amount of engine oil to plug threads, using only the plug socket and extension bar by hand thread the plug back into the motor until it stops , then add the ratchet onto the extension bar and tighten until you feel it start to tighten up then you can nip it a quarter turn and thats it .... done .... There is a copper washer on the bottom of the plug that squashes together and helps seal the plug and causing that to be completely flattened from over tightening will cause it to seize and jam your plug, if not it has been cross threaded and removing the plug will damage the thread in the motor ! but you have no choice ..only to remove it . ( the thread then can be repaired ) you will know this by the striped aluminium all around the plug thread when you remove it .To avoid this happening is why you start to replace your plug by hand before using the ratchet .

Misfires when warm

Check the spark on all cylinders with a spark tester to see if all have spark. If good spark on all do a compression test to see if there is a problem with one of the cylinders, i.e. burned/bent valves, hole in piston.

My crankcase keeps filling up with fuel and gas

Hi,
The problem would be the gas float stopper in the carburetor.
Better open the carb and check the float valve if it stops the flow of fuel when the float chamber is already filled.
Your mechanic or you can adjust the pin stopper by moving /adjusting the float pin seat.
Hope that helps you out.
thanks for using FixYa!

1999 zx9r will not shift pass neutral

You have a bent shift fork.

You will need an impact driver, flywheel puller, case splitter and torque wrench plus the normal screwdriver, pliers, etc.. Alternate to the special tools is taking it to the dealer and say "Fix it". I often tell people to take it to the shop just so they don't get into such an involved project.

The motor comes out of the bike then turned upside down for removal of the bottom case. The clutch, shift shaft, flywheel, electrics, gears and gear shafts gotta come out so you can get to the bad fork. There's much more but the idea is that you are better off having the shop do the repair unless you have experience, are extremely mechanically inclined, and have the tools. The bad news is that a shop is going to charge around $1200 for the repair. Some shop mechanics also repair bikes at home. If you find one, you can save $200 to $400 or so. I include a diagram to give you an idea of how the shift drum moves the forks left and right to change gears. Please rate my answer.

Hi i drove to work

I think the stand is the cause of the issue. Check the stand switch as if the bike is in gear or you have the clutch let out and the stand is down, it will not attempt to start.
Hope that helps.

you either have a severe missfire or its running too rich if it iworse when riding the bike and you do a rapid gear change to a lower gear and it pops and bangs a lot its air being sucked into the exhaust system from a leak in the exhaust joint or gasket failure check for blows around the exhaust clollectors or splits around the bracket that holds the pipe on to the bike frame

My zx9r c1 1998 keeps blowing rear stop / tail

Hi smithydean
First just to make sure do a mutimeter test across your battery with the bike running should be around 13.5 volts, 14 would be suspect (check you manual), If ok and the is no looseness around the light body it may be as simple as changing the brand of bulb to a better named brand, I have gone through 2 of these in the last couple of months myself. Stay away from cheap globes mate they don't stand up to vibration and jaring delivered by sports bikes.
