My 2005 450 is also blowing oil into the air box. I drained the oil and found it had a full quart in it. This is impossible. I always measure the oil. Could my Transmition be leaking into it?

The problem is with the balancer shaft seals and or bearings. This is the only place that oil can communicate between the two compartments. I have seen and repaired this many times.

I can email a PDF of the page in the factory service manual that shows how to time the engine. You will need a timing light. The file has two line art drawings and two photos. I can call tomorrow to get your email address. I can then email you and attach the PDF file. Below is what it looks like. The Fixya system doesn't handle PDF files. Please rate my answer. Does it matter what kind of brake fluid i use?

Well, the manufacturer calls for DOT 4.

You can however choose to use DOT 5.1 (which is not a silicone based product, like DOT 5 fluid). The 5.1 is a replacement for DOT 3 or 4 applications, but it's pricey because it has a much higher temperature breakdown point.

If you would like some good bedtime reading about brake fluid and the various uses and reccomendations, take a look here (Interesting if you really want to get in depth knowledge):

2007 CRF 450 R- from

This can only be lack of fuel for some reason backfire is nearly always lean fuel condition and the cut out pretty much confirms lean or no fuel?
I would be checking the size of main jet (they numbered) double check it is factory size? I would check the needle clip position god knows why but people change the position so double check it is factory setting (usually 3 or 4 notches from top is factory setting I forget which one it is for Honda's) I would double check your air filter is clean and/or not oil drenched
refer to your manual or ring your Honda dealer for all the specs
Some other possibilities would be spark plug fail at high load (but unlikely?) stator failing at high RPM ( unlikely but worth the two minute multi meter test to make sure resistances is still in spec)
good luck regards Jamie

Hi. I have a Honda crf

there is really only two ways for oil to enter the oil (1) is the oil and water seals fitted on the water pump impellor or (2) the other is head gasket leak
the most common on MX bikes is the oil and water seal at the impellor (water pump)
if your not to mechanical minded then both of these issues you would be best to take to dealer to rectify as they bit tricky to do with out experience.
if you are mechanical minded then either problem is fairly cheap to fix about $25 for the oil water seals or about $70 for the head gasket
let me know if you want me to elaborate on either issue
good luck regards Jamie
