Need to know how many
Nothing special, just drain the oil, change the filter, add three quarts of oil. You do know where the oil drain is on the frame just below the transmission behind the exhaust pipes. The primary holds 36-44 ounces, and the transmission holds 20-24 ounces of oil.

How do you adjust and
The best way to do this is to measure the belt tension adjuster bolts on either side of the swing arm. They should both measure the same. When adjusting the belt, get both bolts at the same measurement. Then adjust the bolt to push the tire to the rear the same on each side at a time. Like if you turn the right bolt a quarter turn, do the same with the left side bolt. Always adjust the bolt pushing the axle to the rear. If you get the belt too tight, loosen the bolts at least two turns, bump the wheel forward and start going backwards again, this time in smaller increments. Once you are finished, the two bolts should measure the same length. This almost guarantees that the axle is 90° of the centerline of the bike.

How does the primary drive come off a harley 1450B
You'll have to take the left floorboard off then just take the bolts out of the outer primary cover. It'll come right off.
Now, if you haven't already done so, disconnect the battery, You do want to keep all your fingers. The compensator sprocket at the front of the engine comes off by taking the nut off. It's very tight, 150-165 foot pounds. To get the clutch off, in the middle of the clutch assembly there is a plate with a screw and nut in it and it's held in by a snap ring. Take this plate out. There is a nut behind the plate, Remove it. It has 60-80 foot pounds of torque and has "LEFTHANDED THREADS". Take the nut off the primary chain adjuster and lift the whole mess right out.

Where is the oil drain plug located on a 2005 HD
Look along the underside of the oil tank from the right side of the bike. You should see a large diameter hose going down towards the transmission. It usually comes out along the frame just behind the transmission. The line has a removable plug in it. Remove the plug, oil drains out of the tank.
How to do an oil change
Look at the bottom of the oil tank from the right hand side of the bike. You'll see a large hose that runs towards the back of the bike instead of forward towards the front of the bike. Follow this hose or tube down along the frame, behind the transmission and you'll see a plug in the pipe. Remove this plug and the oil will drain out of the tank. Harley used to have a large diameter rubber hose but I've heard they changed that. If you follow the bottom frame tubes back to where they turn upwards behind the transmission, you should see the drain hose.

My bike wont start. it just makes a noise like a machine gun
It sounds to me like your battery is bad. Take the battery to your local automotive parts house and ask them to load test it for you. What it sounds like is you have a cell shorting out in the battery. This would result in the voltage on the battery dropping below 12 volts when you attempt to start the bike. With the voltage that low, the solenoid "hold in coil" cannot hold in the solenoid plunger to engage the starter motor. The result is that "machine gun" noise you hear with the solenoid plunger going in and out rapidly.
When motor warms up noticable ticking develops
Usually the ticking comes from the exhuast or heat shields, this is usual. You can even get ticking from the fins and parts attached to the jugs.
Any thing that you can do to keep the engine running cooler will help to extend the life of your motor.
Don't let it idle for long periods of time, talk to your dealer about high end oils that will reduce friction in the motor, and adding a oil cooler will help lower operating temps.
Something that you can do is, make sure that the heat shields are tightened down, even shifting the shields just a bit can make a change.
Please rate me, if this has been helpful, and/or contact me back with any other questions that you might have.
Sincerely,
Paul Gibson
Have a great day!
What are my wheels on my 2004 Fatboy made of. Are
Most of the original solid wheels for the Fatboy were cast aluminum wheels that were polished along the rim and then sealed with a sealant to keep them shiney for a long time. This sealant eventually starts to crack and flake off and the wheel will tarnish. You can strip the sealant off and then repolish the edge of the wheel and reaseal it with a product called "Zoop". It's hard work and the "Zoop" is expensive but it works fairly well.
Have a 2007 fxstb with 200mm rear tire and want to
yes, if you push the new axle in while pulling the old axle out the other side, you can take the old axle completely out and install the backing plate for the axle cover on that side. Then, reverse the procedure and do the other side. But, it's not really necessary to do all this and purchase another axle. If you simply lift the bike until the weight is off the rear tire but it's still on the ground, usually the rear wheel won't go anywhere. You're still going to have to loosen the tension on the rear drive belt though.
Chk eng light comes on then go's off then comes
when you turn the ignition on you should here the fuel pump come on and pressurize the system (55-62 psi) and your engine light should also come on for about 4 sec. and then go out, if it comes back on for 8 sec. then you have a historic trouble code. You can pull the code up using the speedo. Press and hold the speedo button in and turn the ignition switch on and release the speedo button. You should see diag. then you should see a flashing p press and hold and it should give you the dtc code record the code(s) and continue till you have recorded them all. Then go back and erase them by pressing the reset button when the code appear.then run your bike and recheck to see if the code comes back
Transmission of my twincam 88 became frozen in 3rd
With your bike not running and the transmission in neutral, use your hand a slightly lift up on your shifter. Don't actually try to shift the transmission into a gear, just lift the lever and feel the spring tension on it. Then push down on it as if to shift into first but don't actually shift the transmission into gear. The resistance in both directions should feel about the same. What you checking here is the shifter pawl return spring. On the five speed transmissions behind Evo engines, they were bad about breaking. If you've got sring tension trying to return the shifer back to the neutral position from both directions, you're fine.
Now there is another little spring on the shifter pawl inside the transmission. That may have messed up. I don't know whether your problem was just a one-time thing or if it's something that is going to be recurrant.
Either way, I would suspect a problem with the shifter pawl. If you replace it, replace it shaft and all. It is a complete teardown of the transmission to replace it. Just ride the bike until it screws up completely unless you are sure thats what the problem is.
Bike turns over but will not start already tried
If it was sitting all winter, try one or more of the following.
- make sure your fuel selector is not turned off.
- Drain carb float bowls.
- Make sure you are getting a spark (try twisting the spark plug wires into the spark plug to improve connection - you can also remove and rub all wire surfaces inside plug and on plug electrode with fine sand paper to make sure you get a clean connection)
That's my two cents - usually works with my lawn mower and old YZ.
