Transmission fill & drain plugs
The transmission drain plug is underneath the transmission. The fill plug is in the chrome end cover of the transmission. It's the plug that takes the large hex key or Allen wrench to remove. 3/8" hex key if the original plug is in it. 20-24 ounces of oil.

What would be the best battery for the buck for a
Personally, I think the H-D AGM battery is about the best value out there at this moment in my area. They are competitively priced and they are excellent batteries. If you keep them on a "smart charger" when you're not on your bike, i've seen five year lives out of them typically. The Softail is particularly tough on batteries since the battery is housed in the horseshoe style oil tank. It causes the battery to run hotter than the other bikes Harley makes. I say this simply as a mechanic that has worked on H-D motorcycles for many years. I have no vested interest in Harley-Davidson.

When i let off the gas to slow down a little then
It sounds like the typical "lean from the factory" problems but let's check one other thing first. Take ht air filter off the bike leaving only the backing plate on it. With the engine OFF, crank the throttle wide open. When you do this, you should see a shot of fuel squirt from the brass nozzle in the mouth of the carb. This is the accelerator pump. If you don't see a shot of fuel squirt into the carb, the pump diaphragm is bad or there's trash plugging the hole that lets the fuel get to the pump.
If you do see the shot of fuel, you may simply have a carb set too lean. I'd go with a #48 or #50 slow jet in the carb. Maybe add a 0.020 inch thick washer under the needle to raise it up just that little bit enrichening the mid-range.

I ran my newly purchased
Your bike is not equipped with a "choke" per se. It is equipped with an "enricher" circuit. Although both systems are meant to provide a rich mixture with which to start a cold engine, they do this it completely different fashions. If you were to ride the bike with a "choke" partially on, it would run very rich. But, once you crack the throttle plate open on an "enricher" equipped carburetor, the enricher is rendered inoperative. An enricher only works when the throttle is fully closed.
If you're running rich and fuel is splattering down the right side of the bike, you've got other problems in the carb. I would suspect that your needle and seat is not sealing like it should for one reason or the other. If the bike sat up for a while, it could have some residue on the needle and seat left from the gasoline evaporating or something. I'd go purchase a can of carb and injector cleaner and pour some in the fuel tank. Do not allow any of this to get on your paint. Try that for a tank full if you can. If that doesn't work, the carb needs to be taken off, stripped down, and thoroughly cleaned inside. Maybe install a new needle valve. The seat is not replaceable in the original carburetor.

Adjust carb on 2004 fatboy
If your carb is stock, the only thing you can adjust is the idle speed. The throttle stop screw is located at the top right of the carb. Turn the screw clockwise to increase the idle speed.
To adjust the idle mixture, you'll have to drill out the anti-tamper plug on the backside of the carb. This will require the removal of the carb from the engine. Turn the carb upside down and look just to the rear of the float bowl. Do not drill too deeply to remove this plug or you'll damage the idle mixture needle and they are NOT available separately from the dealer. Drill just deep enough to go through the plug. Tap the hole for a small screw, insert the screw and use a pair of pliers to pull the plug out. Some of them are in pretty tight. Put the carb back on the engine. Start the engine and bet it ot operating temp. Adjust the idle mixture screw for the best idle and then set the idle speed at about 1000 RPM.

How do I replace the fuel gauge on a 2004 FATBOY?
If the fuel gauge is in the tank where the left side fuel cap should be, rock the fuel gauge while pulling up on it. It's held in by an O-ring. Be careful as the wires that run from the gauge to the sending unit in the tank are very short.
If you need information about how the fuel gauge works and testing, contact me off forum at
[email protected] I'll send you some information on it. This forum will only allow me to attach a file of 150kb. Much to small to be of much good. Remind me of what you need.

I have a 2004 fat
Regrettably, this is a common problem. You're engine is what we call a "Head Breather" meaning that the crankcase pressure is vented from the heads. And, as per EPA regulations, this vented pressure is directed into the air cleaner to be run through the engine. As the air is coming out of the engine, it brings with it small droplets of oil. These droplets of oil are caught in the air filter and coalesce into larger drops. The drops are then blown out of the air filter cover by the air passing by it as a result of the bike going down the road.
You can reduce this by keeping your air filter housing cleaned regularily. Or, you purchase a kit that will reroute the vented air from the crankcase. The air is vented into the air filter housing through the two large diameter bolts to the front and rear of the air filter. These bolts are hollow.

Weak battery, I would like
There is another way but it may not be any easier. You can connect the positive clamp of your battery charger to the connection where the large battery cable coming from the battery connects to the starter. Connect the negative clamp to a good frame ground.
The best method of maintaining your battery is to use one of the "smart chargers" on your battery. A "Battery Tender" or "Yuasa" smart charger comes with a pigtail that you connect to your battery. Tuck the pigtail in somewhere that it can't be seen when you ride and when you get back home, plug the charger to the pigtail. Your battery will stay fully charge without be boiled dry like the big chargers will do . It will increase the life of your battery as well.

Dyna 2006 p55pt error code
I have been through the manual and looked at every code listed and that code isnt listed can you verify the code as they are sometimes hard to read and let me know I will continue looking for you.. Also does the bike run? Any other info you can give me would help like what happened just before the code if anything, did you fuel right before the code. Any other info you can think of might help us solve this problem. Let me know.
My FLSTFI started missing after starting and
It could be either but more than likely it is fuel. Can you hear your fuel pump turning on? Will it restart? Has It been sitting? Does the bikes check engine light flash? Is there a code in the Speedo self Diag system? Please email me at
[email protected] and I will assist you in finding the problem and resolving it.

Three quarts. It's got a dipstick in the tank. There are two marks on the stick. The upper mark is "FULL HOT" and the lower mark is "FULL COLD". Check the oil level with it on the side stand. Keep the oil between the two marks and do not overfill.

2004 hd fatboy screaming eagle
There's a hose coming off the backside of the oil tank on the right side underneath it. This hose goes down behind the transmission and on down to the lower part of the frame behind the exhaust system. Depending on the year, there will be a plug in the end of the hose that is held by a clip on the frame. On later models, the hose connects to the cross member of the frame with a drain plug that screws up from underneath the cross member.

How to get inside the fuel tank to unstick the
There should be a "round" plate with some wires connected to it and about five small bolts on it. Make sure the tank is drained and the battery disconnected. Remove the wires making sure you know where they came from and remove the bolts. Lift the plate and the fuel sensor and the float are on the plate. The float is on the end of a long arm. You must not bend the arm as you attempt to remove the float from the tank. It's a tricky job as you must rotate the assembly as you take it out of the tank. Before you do this, check all your electrical connections and the gauge to make sure your problem is in the sensor.

How do you find out how much oil is in and how
Stand the bike straight up. Remove the derby cover. Inside you'll see the clutch assembly. The outer clutch basket is made of shiny aluminum. Just inside that is a round flat-looking spring that is darker in color. The oil should be no higher than the lowest point of this spring. Your primary should hold between 36-42 ounces of oil. Do not overfill the primary as it will cause your clutch to drag and you will be unable to find neutral with the engine running.
