I have an early model and I think they're still the same in that area. There are two bolts on the right side of the battery support. Loosen these two bolts and the battery will drop down a bit allowing you to remove the battery top cover and front cover.

It is a 6mm metric bolt that uses an 8mm piloted hex key wrench to remove it unless they changed it.

On the front forks, you can change to a heavier fork oil. I run 30 wt. fork oil in my '94 FXDWG. On the rear, tighten the shocks up by adjusting the ring at the bottom of the spring. Turning the ring increases or decreases the preload on the spings depending on which way you turn the ring.

The bike may suffer from a combo of the gas going stale in the carb, and may have slightly clogged the small passageways, but if it starts and runs you are halfway there. Use some carb or fuel injection cleaner in the gas tank to help out there. As far as cold start, it may be from a lean condition form the factory, and the coughing and popping are symptomatic of that. If you have a good HD shop nearby, they should be able to change the slow speed up just a bit, to pretty much take care of the issue of coughing, popping and cold start issues. My bike was the same, I bumped the low speed jet up , but still have a cold blooded bike, it takes a while to run properly form cold start, and will pop if driven too soon or if it is cold out until she warms up good. Some advice for cold start, use the choke know as usual, then push in the choke as soon as you can, and use the throttle to keep RPMs up about 1000 using throttle lock to RPMs there. As the motor warms up RPMs will increase on their own and you can adjust the RPMs lower as motor warms using throttle and throttle lock. Use your hand to touch the heads, as the motor warms up you'll feel heat, when she's too hot too touch, she is ready to ride. See you in the wind.

Depends. You will get some valve noise as the bike gets older, however, this noise is only noticable at Idle. If you are getting a loud enough noise at crouse speed to the point of being annoying then the chances are you have a lifter that is starting to collapse. This is upper end noise only. If you are getting a lower end noise and have at least 30,000 miles on the bike. Chances are the valve drive chain tensioners are going. This is a known problem with twin cam engines. I have two twin cams and had to replace the tensioners on both. My advice to you if this is the problem is to go to Gear Drive cams. I did it without any regrets. I have a quicker power response and was able to increase my rev. limit speed by almost 200 rpms. The down side according to some is a wining noise. I don't get any noise I can hear over my Python 3 pipes. In my opinion the benefits out weigh the noise. Without having the bike in front of me this is the best I can suggest.

simply put yes. When you reinstall you will use the jam nut to lock the mirror in place.

If the lights are flashing, the battery isn't completely dead. Check the battery using a voltmeter. It should be somewhere around 12.5 volts. If you press the start button and it drops below 9.0 volts, the battery is the culprit.

If not, does the bike have a securtiy system on it?

On the earlier Dynas, you had to take the seat off. Look right behind the battery, under the seat, and you'll see a bolt. This is a "jack bolt" used to raise and lower the battery tray. The battery tray is held in place by two bolts just to the rear of the tray on the outside of the frame. Loosen the two bolts, and turn the screw counter clockwise to lower the battery.

clean the fuel system, also fuel may be old
