Harley turn signal problems

The turn signal module (TSM) is an electronic microprocessor that controls the turn signals and four-way hazard flasher. The turn signal module receives its information from the speedometer and turn signal switches. On models equipped with a security system (TSSM), it is incorporated into the TSM module. The bank angle sensor (BAS) provides motorcycle movement signals to the module. TSM and TSSM modules are not interchangeable. The turn signal module, TSM or TSSM, is located on the electrical panel located in front of the rear wheel. When there is a problem with either system, a diagnostic fault code(s) is set. The TSM or TSSM can only be tested with Harley-Davidson diagnostic equipment. If any portion of the module is inoperative, refer the testing to a Harley-Davidson dealership

My forks just dont have enough resistance.

This is an old thread but just in case you haven't gotten the problem fixed, you need to change the fork oil in your forks. The main reason is to make sure you've got the correct amount in them.

If after changing the oil they're still too spongy, you need to change the oil to a heavier weight oil. Use 30 weight "FORK OIL". Do not use any other type of oil as it may foam. Use fork oil only and in the correct amount. Your owner's manual should tell you how much oil to add.

To drain the oil, there is a plug down near the axle on each fork slider. At the top triple trees, there is a large cap on each fork tube. Take this out and add the proper amount of the proper weight oil. Only do one tube at a time. You may have to get the weight of the bike off the front end.

My rear tail light does not work when the front

You should have two filaments in the reat taillight lamp, one for tail light and one for brake light. You are not confusing these filaments/functions are you?

What you seem to be saying to me is that you have a lamp that had no tail light filament (burned out) but does have a brake light filament still intact.

Remove the light and check it visually and/or with a contunity tester.

I hope this helps you ...

Back firing will not idle properly

try cleaner in fuel,and make sure exhaust is not letting fresh cold air into the tailpipe(backfiring is sometimes caused by fresh air in fuel rich hot pipe). If cleaner helps but doesnt solve the prob. you may need to clean the fuel system,deposits may flush away,but solids in the system would need to be removed by open up and clean out the orfaces and jets etc.

When i turn the switch

This may be due to the fuel pump pressurizing the fuel system if your bike is fuel injected. I know nothing about fuel injection systems on Harley bikes. I do not work on them. I specialize in the Evolution and earlier model bike without fuel injection on them. However, I have worked on other typs of fuel injected vehicles in the past. Check with your local dealer and see IF there have been any recalls on this as I've seen many complaints about leaking fuel lines. Doesn't hurt to ask.

Good Luck

Khow to remove steering lock

On any bike with the large ignition switch and steering lock on the steering head, do not remove this assembly. You can get it out but then you can't get it back in. It takes a special tool to realign the lock and switch. Best take this to the dealer.

Good Luck

How do you take out and replace starter motor on a

Start by disconnecting the battery. Then, drain the primary and remove the outer primary cover. Take the bolt out of the starter jackshaft and remove it. If the coupler comes out with the jackshaft, mark it so you know which direction it goes because it does make a difference. The tapered end goes in from the primary side.

Now, on the right side of the bike, remove the exhaust system and anything else that might get in the way. Take the seat off and take all the bolts out that hold the oil tank so you can lift it just a bit. Remove the battery cable and the small wire from the starter relay from the starter. Take the two 3/8" bolts out of the starter, not the two small diameter bolts that hold the starter motor to the solenoid. Remove the starter.

Replace in the reverse order.

Good Luck

Does anyone know where I can get the error codes

I am not sure but these codes may be of great assistance to you/
Harley Trouble codes
The following procedure will instruct in retrieving and clearing ECM Diagnostic Trouble Codes and TSM/TSSM codes thru the Harley guage cluster as well as a list of codes.

1- Turn Ignition switch to OFF & Run/Stop switch is to Run.

2- Push odometer reset button in & hold.

3- Turn ignition switch to Ignition and release the odometer reset button. Background lighting sould illuminate, sppedometer needle should sweep its full range and indicator lamps (battery, security, low fuel, check engine and cruise) should illuminate. The word "diag" should then appear.

4 - Push the odometer reset button once and you will see the selection menu "PSSPt" with the first P flashing.

5 - Each letter represents an area of the diagnostics module. The module that is flashing is the one you are going to check. To move from one letter (module) to the next, you push the odometer reset button one time. (from P to S to SP to t and back to P, etc.)
P = ECM/ICM (Electronic Control Module) [EFI] / Ignition Control Module [Carbureted])
S = TSM/TSSM (Turn Signal/ Security Module)
SP = speedometer
T = tachometer

6 - To get the DTC within an area of diagnostics, push and hold the odometer reset button in for 5 seconds and release. If there are any DTC's the code will be displayed or the word "none" will appear if there are no DTC's. Push the odometer reset button again to view additional codes if they exist.

7 - Record the codes.

8 - If DTC's are not to be cleared, Press and release the odometer reset button. Part number of module will be displayed.
NOTE: To determine if a code is current or historic, clear the displayed code by pushing in and holding the odometer reset button ( longer than 5 seconds) until 'clear' comes up. Release the odometer reset button. Turn OFF the ignition switch. Run your bike and shut it down then recheck the DTC's again by repeating steps 1 to 9. If the code is current it will reappear.

9 - Press and release the odometer reset button to continue to the next module.

10 - Turn Ignition switch to OFF.

On models not equipped with a tachometer "No Rsp" will appear when the tachometer identifier is selected.

"No Rsp" (no response) will also appear if the run/off switch is in the off position when doing this procedure.
