I appreciate that this is only a similar problem but my wife had a similar problem with her old vaxhaul corsa, we got the big guy across the road to help because big guys are usually good with this sort of thing lol, ok he had a great car lots of tools and was always inside his cars engine. He came across half hour later with jump leads and I yelled stop because not just sparks but the cable covers melted and I found it to be a little off. after that we had nothing, no ignition, no lights just nothing and a car mechanic came looked in the engine but couldnt see anything we explained about the battery and on testing it he found that the battery itself first drained as suspected and then we broke it by overloading it somehow in the end a new battery sorted the problem which cost £50 but in the long run we thought it a good price. the battery lasted us another 4 years until the car had had enough and went in for scrap. hope you can take something from that and you can sort your bike :)
I need tuning specs for my 1982 suzuki gs 750.
You need to fix the fueling first - without fuel it won't run!
Your other problem sounds like an air leak - either the manifold or the carb. Check by spraying WD-40 or CRC at the manifold and carb join while the bike is running - if the revs change (either up or down) you have a leak.

Theres a lot of stuff relating to these bikes (i have an 82 GS%%)l, and have found GSresource website a fantastic place to learn, and get advice. Your particular problem may be more electrical than fuel/air, a fair few common faults with these. A, the 3 phase stator has an unessesary lead going up into the loom for the headlight - it doesn`t need it, it just feeds back down to the r/r. unplug the lead from the stat - find where the lead comes from light back to r/r - unplug it, plug the stat lead directly to the one you unplugged feeding into the r/r. That will save ur stat burning out and enliven some power back to coils. B, look for an ignition relay mod for the gs, it will give you direct feed from live to coil (its a long, long thread) its called `coil relay modifications for the gs` i can`t remember where i got it so i can`t do a link at mo - sorry. C, when you`ve done this check timing with a gun - ur advancer may need attention or be fouled up. If you got cash buy a dyna s for it (and coils if ur really flush). Do all these and you`ll probably be better off than you`ve ever known the bike to be. I also run splitfire plugs in mine, they make a lot of difference too. I hope this helps m8.
