1979 Suzuki GS 750 E - Page 4 Questions & Answers
Have a 1977 Suzuki GS 750 in a garden tractor,
here is an easy to use plug diagnosis link.
http://www.spark-plugs.co.uk/pages/technical/diagnosis.htm
since you have good compression I would tend to think you just have a fuel issue (old gas or even a parly plugged fuel filter)
Suzuki
Domi Racer, SUDCO Vintage
No start,good crank
Try to replace the spark plugs and not bad too to check the compression of the cylinders.
1979 suski 750,bike runs on 2 left side cylinders,
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
With the indulgence of craigjamesbt...
A few additional ideas to consider:
- it would be an electrical/ignition issue if 1 & 4 or 2 & 3 will not fire but not 3 & 4;
- almost always, raw fuel on exhaust indicates a flooded engine. A flooded engine would most likely be a carb issue;
- best way to determine if it is an engine concern is to do a compression test;
- a way to test the right carb pair is to deliberately starve them of fuel by temporarily plugging/blocking the inlet port/seat with rubber similar in appearance as to those used for glue gun, not installing the needle and float. Assemble the carb and install. Start the bike and use/spray carb cleaner on the right side carb. Note if 3 & 4 will fire even intermittently.
Would appreciate a postback on results/updates on any developments.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
Kick start will start it. Electric starter will not turn over.
Engine is still cold, battery doesn't have enough juice to supply extra current to ignition coil coz its almost use up by electric starter. Check battery contact. Head light is on.
Commonly on morning when engine is still cold kick about 10 consecutive time before turning on the switch. It will help lubricate it inside and generate some heat. This will lessen starting current to be use up by the starter. Also give some extra fuel to the line.
Hope it helps
Removing battery
Julie the side covers are just pushed into rubber grommets be careful when prying out on the side covers on a bike this old they will be dry rotted.
and then when you see the battery I personally would replace it so I didn't get down to the local tavern and have it strand me

the floats in the carbs are stuck down...you need to adjust the float levels in the carbs. You may have adjusted them too high.
Engine Knock.
check your oil. check to see if your front sprocket nut came loose, or anything else on that side.
