does it start and run when you jump start it? if so, you probable need a higher cranking battery. sounds like the battery isnt powerfull enough.

Connect a volt meter to the battery and start the bike....should be reading above 13volts if not alternator not functioning properly.

remove the seat and look for notches in the seat pan that match up with posts on the frame. if you do not have these, all you can do is lower your rear shock or change the seat.

Check to make sure you are getting 12v to the starter when you hit the start button. If you are,then yes,...most likely the starter is toast. But if youre not,..then check all fuses and the starter relay.

Pump Motor FUBRMy 750ss is normally laid up over winter and would not start this April. I realised the fuel pump was not humming on ignition switch on so lifted the tank, unplugged the 4 way electric plug and checked the resistance of the pump motor ( the 2 thicker wires of the four ) it was 0 ohms or open circuit. I removed the ring which holds the filler ( dont forget the one inside only visible when you open the flap. stuffed a rag in the opening and unscrewed the eight 2mm allen grub screws around the inside of the rim. tapped the ring with a lump of wood and pulled it free. unclipped the clip which held the rubber pipe from the filter to the fixed outlet pipe. unclipped the fuel pump from its clips and took it out. I stripped the pump and motor and found that the plastic part of the armature had melted and smeared over the commutator ( rotary contact ( on the motor, which was why the read open circuit. The solution is a replacement motor and reassemble in reverse order. PP Don't smoke and disconnect your battery to prevent any sparks or you could grow wings without drinking red bull. Your fuel pump is vacuum operated, I would look for a crack in the rubber somewhere. Also, the side stand, the bike will start with it down, but will shut off the second you put it in gear. I have a 2002 S4.
