I placed jumper cables on it and for a short moment got the leads on th ewrong terminals. Saw sparks placed them on correctly then the problem surfaced: no start. ps. DOES have spark at the plugs! ,bloWn ignition fuse, ignition fuse on some machines is on a difernt fuse from idiot lights could of fried your CDI if you have one its possible, I dont like using jumper cables on bikes even if you get them the right way arround....your better off using a low ampage setting on a charger to start a bike than a jump from a car IMHO,,,

I turn on the Ign and light comes on- crank the starter and it spins with plenty of powerbut wont start. Took the plug out and earthed it to the enginewhile cranking,but no spark. Put in new plug and the same result.So whats the next step to find the trouble. Thanks Gerry,Time to start trouble-shooting the ignition system. With a multi tester and a service manual, you can test the coil, or have a shop do it, same with the CDI unit. But you can look for broken wires/bad connections in the pick-up wires and any wires leading to/from the CDI.,,,

A good patch job (removing the tire and repairing with a patch on the inside of it) I feel is much better than a plug IMHO I used to do allot of automotive tire repairs with patches and can't remember if any actually came apart or became defective. The plug may have a tendency to loosen and leak. On the other hand allot of people would replace the tire just to have peace of mind with regards to motorcycle tires. 1500 miles is close enough to justify replacement. ,,

must be fuel , bike uses fuel in carb then stops so make sure fuel flows and connect to carby squirt fuel directly into carb to fire , check float level and jet

Try some of the Benelli owners websites as someone might have one or there could be one being sold for spares. Personally I would consider getting a one made as new. There are companies out there that can build exact copies if they have the old one as a template.

Clean, lube and check that all parts are moving.

Run son carb cleaner thru it. If that doesn't work you will need to remove and disassemble the carburator to clean it properly.
