Vespa et4 125 cuts out after starting and riding for a few yards
before buying a new HT coil (as these are generally bullet proof on an et), remove the inspection panel and disconnect the spark cap. secure something long, thin and metal into the cap ( screw, tweezers, etc) and position it with a slight gap to the frame. disable the immobiliser and use the kick start. you should see the spark jumping from the metal to the metal frame. I fyou see this spark, it is most likely that the HT coil is fine.
Sometimes the diaphragm in the fuel tap can go wonky on an ET also, meaning that it might start alright but after going for a while, once the carb drains, the engine will die from fuel starvation. to test the fuel tap, remove the 2 tubes that run from the fuel tap to the carb at the carb end and **** lightly on the thin one. you will feel the daphragm open and fuel will run from the fatter tube if it is working.
Another thing that might happen if it is running for a while then dies is that the carb might be allowing too much fuel to the engine and flooding it. If when it restarts, there is a lot of smoke from the exhaust it could indicate this. leave it tick over for a while to run off the worst of it then increase the throttle slowly until you hit full throttle, leave it run back down to idle and you should be set to go. only use the throttle lightly and go slowly and it should bring you home at least then adjust your carb.
Can not find parts for my bike
Hi, Try bob wright motorcycles they are based in western-super-mare but offer mail order , type in bobwrightmotorcycles on a google search.
Aprilia af1 125 sintesi, carb settings, what are
Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Jet size would depend which carb is installed, a Dellorto 34mm?
Initially, check the sparkplug tip colors. If very light brown to almost whitish, then lean mix; too much air, too little gas. Try raising the needle if if has notches and moving the e-clip. If fixed, use small thin washers. The basic idea is to make the needle rise early on throttle movement.
If an aftermarket open breather air filter is installed, then it would be causing the lean mix, too much air. Restrict the filter by adding temporarily upholstery foam to experiment at which thickness the flatspot would disappear.
Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa. Happy Holidays.
ET4 100 miles very underpowered and won't go over 30mph
If it does have carbs then that is pry the problem. I would try to find a book on it.
I would not thuink it would be spark. I Just don't think it could be really. My best bet would be take the carbs and turn the fuel ait mixture screws all the way in and lossen them 1?4 turn at a time until it will start.
This is a process that takes some time but when done correctly it makes a big difference.Once it starts on its own then you know you are close. Now snap the thottle real quick. If it does not rev up right away then you know you are still low on the settings. Continue to turn the screws 1/4 turn off untill the it wants to snap when you goose the thottle.
Most people do not understand carbs enough to do this correctly so I would recomend reading how the fuel and air mixture screws on carbs in general worked. That way you can fine tune it. I would not buy new carbs until you are certian that they are bad which I highly dought they are.
Help with my aprilia AF1 125?
Congratulations. You have just purchased a very high performance 2 stroke 125cc from a very talented Italian manufacturer.
A two stroke engine needs 2T oil to be mixed with the fuel before it is fed into the engine. This is a cumbersome job and one has to get the ratio just right. So in order to make the job easier you have two tanks. 1) The regular fuel tank & 2) A small capacity 2T oil tank (made of plastic mostly) which is hidden behind a side panel.
In order to give a regular dose of 2T oil there is a tiny oil pump attached to the side of the engine. This oil pump has to be actuated simultaneously when the carb slide is actuated. Hence the banjo.
So now you know why the throttle cable splits into 2. One goes to the carburator and other to the oil pump. Good luck and enjoy your bike sensibly.,,,

1
Park your RSV 1000R on a well-ventilated, level area, using its kickstand.
-
2
Start the engine and let it idle in place until the
temperature gauge built into the instrument cluster indicates a minimum
internal temperature of 180 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the motorcycle's
ideal operating temperature.
-
3
Take note of the engine idle speed, using the tachometer
needle, while the engine is running. Ideally, the engine should idle
steadily at 1,250 rpm.
-
4
Adjust the engine idle speed to 1,250 rpm, using the idle
adjuster screw hidden between the lower right edge of the fuel tank and
the upper edge of the right middle fairing panel. Turn the idle adjuster
screw clockwise to increase the engine idle speed, or counterclockwise
to decrease the engine idle speed, using a small flat screwdriver if
your RSV 1000R's frame (VIN number) precedes ZD4MEE009YS000292. A
plastic knob allows the engine idle speed to adjusted by hand on RSV
1000R models with a frame (VIN) numbers starting from ZD4MEE009YS000293.
-
5
Rev the engine two to three times and observe the
tachometer. The engine should return to a 1,250 rpm idle. Adjust the
engine idle speed as needed, using the method described, then rev the
engine again. Problems may exist within the throttle control,
fuel-injection system or engine, if the engine idle speed will not hold
steady at 1,250 rpm. Contact your local Aprilia service facility for
assistance.
-
6
Stop the engine, once you have obtained a steady 1,250 rpm idle speed.
