1995 Harley Davidson FLHR Road King. Makes a clunky noise when I put into to 1st and 2nd gear. Also feels if bike wants to not go?

Question edited for clarity and full year make and model. Question moved to correct category from 'Road Motorcycles'. Clunk noises when shifting are caused by badly adjusted clutches and slack primary chains and final drive belts. Clutch https://www.google.com/search?q=1995+Harley+Davidson+FLHR+Road+King+adjust+clutch Primary Chain https://www.google.com/search?q=1995+harley+davidson+flhr+road+king+adjust+chain+tension 'not wanting to go', could be a few things, but starts with checking the spark plugs, following by cleaning the carburetor.

02 classic loses all electrical power randomly while riding

I'm going to give you a solution based on personal experience.

I have a 1971 FLH, 1200cc. 16" front wheel, wide glide front end. One main breaker, for all power leading from the main switch on the dash.

I would ride for exactly 8 miles, and the bike would cut off.
Nothing. Nada. Just pull over to the side of the road, and let the circuit breaker cool off. (About the length of one cigarette) Then I'm on my way again for 8 miles.

Tore the seat off, rear wheel out, dash off, headlight nacelle apart, and started checking all wiring.
Found a few breaks in some of the insulation of the wires, found where someone used tape instead of heat shrink tubing. Fixed it. Tried riding again, same thing.

Went through a few more procedures. (I am a Harley mechanic on the older ones)
Finally one day I took the headlight out again, and looked for a short. (I had narrowed it down to something to do with the headlight)

Didn't see anything apparent again. Noticed this time though, that the plastic connector to the headlight, was open on the back.
All three terminals of the headlight, that went into that plastic socket, were exposed at the back.

Having just worked on my Chevy truck, I remembered that the plastic headlight socket, is Enclosed on the back.

Went back to my bike, looked REAL close with a flashlight, and saw a 1/8th inch black mark on the triple tree. The headlight terminals are too far away to create a short?

Removed the plastic headlight socket out of my truck, put it on the Harley.

Has Never quit on me since!

[Hey, we're talking my Harley to a truck! I did get another headlight socket for the truck later!]

1995 Harley-Davidson FLHR Road King. Runs fine, but it knocks a lot, and has a periodic mechanical dragging sound internally, the engine misfires during this time, then it clears up. Any suggestions?

Question edited for clarity, full year, MAKER, model. Question moved for Cars and Trucks to correct category. The 'knocking' is worrying, but is sounds like you have a simple ignition issue. My advice is to take it to a dealer and get it on a scan tool. A CDI / timing issue is my guess. This suggests it may be the carburetor or an intake leak. https://www.google.com/search?q=1995+road+king+misfires ..

What is the torque specs

Just make em tight and dont strip em! Usally parts like this, that are not related to some real mechanical aspect of the vehicle dont have torque specs Motorcycles tend to give more torque specs than automobiles but, since this thing just hold some guages and what not, it just needs to stay on there. I don't have a Harley but, I've had dirt bikes all my life, and I have a honda xrl650 which I ride on the street now and the torque specs on the suspension and wheel components are the most important, to me anyway. Good Luck!

1996 Sportster Custom. Why is there no power to ignition switch?

I had same problem, found the Positive cable from battery has parted inside the plastic cover. the cable was broken, but was making and then breaking with the movement of the bike. the bike would run then stop, then would restart later, when running, the engine would sometime spit. replaced the cable with a longer cable , (it was at the starter end of cable that parted) bike working good now. Good luck Jim H
