1990 4runner not shifting properly when cold.

hello, first you need to make sure the engine gets to operating temperature, maybe the thermostat needs to be replaced, if after that it still has the same problem the temp sender could be the issue here. It is located on a housing in between the cylinder heads near the firewall where the heater hose connects. there are two temp sensors, one for the gauge on the dash and one for the computer. The dash sensor has a single wire, the computer temp sensor has a connector with two wires and is a green connector.

You can go to this link. It's a website sells manuals and honestly, since I've bought one from them, I didn't need further help. I have chrysler 2002 and it almost broke down but I got a $9 manual, and it's perfectly fine now. My personal recommendation! Best Manuals

What revolutions should my 4 litre v6 Hi lux Surf be doing on start up in the morning and how quick should it drop back to normal idle?

concerned about nothing the ECM sets the high idle rpm on starting so that there is sufficient air / fuel mixture to keep the engine running while it does a tune up and checks all the sensors when the sensors are all reporting within parameters , the idle speed will drop back should settle at around 850-900 rpm as for the fan noise if you have a viscous fan hub( not electric ) that is the fan locked in high temperature mode and will stay there until the liquid silicon is pumped back into the reservoir usually takes about 1 minutes and indicates a properly operating fan as the silicon is being pumped back the fan rpm slows down with a reduction of fan noise If anything raises your concerns , you have an on board fault recording system that you can access at any time using a scan tool get in the habit of having the fault codes read at each service or when you feel something is wrong as it will save you lots and lots of cash by not guessing repairs

Why wont my 86 4x4 pickup stay in reverse?

The problem may be the shifter bushings where the shifter goes into the transmission tower, remove the shifter boot, pop the shifter out of the tower by compressing the retainer down then turn, it will pop out, it's spring loaded. There is a bushing at the end of the shifter and there is another one that fits into the opening, this one usually disintegrates and may be gone. There should be a diagram online or a utube video how to do this.

We have a 1994 Toyota 4 runner with the 3.0.

Might want to check the IAC valve. These can often be removed and cleaned out. Might also check the coolant temp sensor that tells the ECU engine temp.

95' toyota 4 runner, just had intake gasket

Hello, there is a coolant transfer pipe under the intake manifold, it connects to the front of the block under the manifold and exits at the rear between the heads where two hoses are attached for the heater and one for the throttle body, one of these may be leaking, in some cases the transfer pipe is rusted and starts to leak filling up the chamber between the heads until it leaks out at the back.
