When vehicle cold, the transmission seems to work fine. When it is warmed up, it periodically neutralises when in top gear and coasting. When the vehicle slows down after neutralising, it then selects low gear and will not change up.
If you stop the vehicle and turn off the engine, then re-start, the transmission works fine again.
There is no gearbox noise at all and fluid levels are ok.
Sounds like you have yourself a bad shift solenoid pack this is mounted on the front of the transmission under a thick rubber boot and has an 8 or 10mm bolt holding a plug into it, these usually fail hot as it is an electronically controlled solenoid and there are tiny little springs and magnets inside that can stick also while you are in there do yourself a favor and change the two speed sensors on the transmission they are about $22 each and can also cause the problem you are explaining. the shift solenoid pack is about $120 on ebay and some sellers actually sell them along with the input and output speed sensors you may try changing those first and see if it solves it but i have a feeling your solenoid pack is failing also when you change these parts it may take the computer a few trips to relearn shift points but you'll know it fixed it right off the bat.. please rate and good luck -jeff
My sister has a 1999 s plate grand voyager 3.3L it has developed a gearbox fault when cold it wont select drive or reverse? it has only just started as the weather is approx -2 during the day and colder during the night, box oil is nice and red no burnt smell could this be a clutch fault of box?
How much fluid does the voyager transmission box take please 3.3l 97
I have 3.3 the gearbox stay in second gaer and doesnt want to change and the speedo also dont work it select reverse neutral park drive but dont shift over

I have a very similar problem. When my vehicle is cold it shifts fine it seems, soon as it reaches normal it go's into limp mode. Could this be caused by using the wrong oil?
Sadly, I had a similar problem which got worse over a period of a few days and eventually the car went into limp-home mode and would only select 1st gear. I drive 30 miles up the M6 to the Chrysler dealership at 25mph in 1st gear with hazards on (boy, was I popular!).
The dearlership suckered me into a new gearbox at £2800 fitted. I'm guessing, from the above that all I needed was a new solenoid pack?

The fluid is flowing over the cap when I start the car when its cold. But when its hot it seems to be fine.
I have a ford focus and I can't change gear when the car is cold once warm up it works fine It's a manual transmission
the transmmission stick on 1 gear i think when it reach the 4 gear i turn off the engine and start again evrything fine and after i have the same probleme
