Serpentine belt diagram

Yes it would have been part of the job unless you have a electric water pump wich I very much doubt. Let the mechanic know what happened. Serpentine belts can be put on a diffrent way to normal & look right but be slightly loose & may come off. I always draw a diagram before removeing it if there is not a diagram on the bonnett. They should have a book or be able to look up the correct routing.

Accessory drive belt routing—1.8L engine

The waterpump pulley is smooth. It the smooth side of the belt touching the pulley or the grooved side. It should be the smooth side.

diagram should be on the radiator shroud / top of radiator

You will only need to locate the fan belt diagram to replace it on correctly and a 1/2 breaker bar or ratchet to back off the tension er while replacing belts check the tension-er bearing if it feels ruff when you turn it replace it. Check water pump also to see if it turns smooth same with the alt.

Go on the Dayco belts web site. They make serpentine belts and a pretty good data base of belt diagrams for any vehicle they make a belt for.

5.9L DIESEL
The 5.9L diesel engine accessory drive system (with a/c) consists of :

1. Generator Pulley (1)
2. Water Pump Pulley (2)
3. Idler Pulley (3)
4. Power Steering Pump Pulley (4)
5. Radiator Fan Pulley (5)
6. Crankshaft Pulley (6)
7. Automatic Tensioner (7)
8. A/C Compressor Pump Pulley (8)

CAUTION: When installing the accessory drive belt, the belt must be routed correctly. If not, engine may overheat due to water pump rotating in wrong direction. Refer to or for correct engine belt routing. The correct belt with correct length must be used.
1. Position drive belt over all pulleys except water pump pulley. 2. Attach a 1/2 inch ratchet to tensioner.


The 5.9L diesel engine accessory drive system (without a/c) consists of :

1. Generator Pulley (1)
2. Water Pump Pulley (2)
3. Idler Pulley (3)
4. Power Steering Pump Pulley (4)
5. Radiator Fan Pulley (5)
6. Crankshaft Pulley (6)
7. Automatic Tensioner (7)

3. Rotate ratchet and belt tensioner clockwise. Place belt over water pump pulley. Let tensioner rotate back into place. Remove ratchet. Be sure belt is properly seated on all pulleys.
