Wont hold the idle. Stalls at a light or stop sign, am able to start it back up. Already replaced the fuel filter and took off the carburator and found nothing wrong.

iac valve idle air control valve if it not easy to start or hard to start if you hold the gas pedal a bit it doesnt stall check the idle air control thanks pierre let me now
COULD BE MANY THINGS LIKE IDLE SPEED TOO LOW NEED ADJUSTED.IGNITION TIMING OFF.STOPPED UP FUEL FILTER.BAD FUEL INJECTOR.BADS PLUGS AND WIRES.LOOK FOR VACUUM LEAKS CHECK ALL VACUUM HOSE AND INTAKE FOR VACUUM LEAKS.
when it stalls does it start right back up or do you have to wait awhile. if it stalls and wont start check for spark at the spark plugs and for fuel pressure. a common problem is the ignition module. it could even be a dirty throttle body if it is stalling at the stop sign then starts right back up. Check your air filter and the throttle body. If the throttle body has a bunch of carbon build up your car wont get enough air at idle. same will happen if you have a super dirty air filter. If the ignition module is bad the symtoms are usually that it wont start for a while till it cools down then will restart.
I had this same problem on my 2005 monte carlo, took mechanic a while to figure out it was the idle air control valve. They also replace the idle air control motor.
hello, if you car stalls instanly maybe your ignition system has a loose connection or even has a short somewhere. but if it coughing but still trying to idle normally maybe your carb dirty. one thing, some carbs has a solenoid air switch attached on one of its side. if this solenoid is shorted damaged you'll have the same effect. hope this helps.
