I have a 2006 chevy colorado. Randomly, maybe once a week, the anti theft system is activated somehow. Then, you have to pull the key and wait ten minutes before it'll start. Sometimes, I don't have ten minutes to wait. Is there any way to deactivate it permanently? The dealer said their diagnostic machine shows nothing wrong.

The fact that the truck starts after 10 minutes makes me think its a failing antitheft system disabling either your starter or fuel injectors. This is actually a VERY common GM problem. This link explains and offers solutions http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

2006 Chevy Cobalt SS. How to get past the antitheft system on it please.

A nice simple answer, you can't. Think of it this way, the car doesn't know you are the owner, and it is there to stop exactly what you are trying to do. You have two computer ECM and BCM, plus the antitheft module and a number of sensors all trying to stop you. All you have to do is the re-learn procedure. Plan B is an auto electrician or alarm / radio installer or auto locksmith.

30 Minute Re-Learn Procedure
  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
  3. Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
  4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds .

2006 Chevy Colorado anti theft issue!!!

I keep telling people you can't bypass the anti-theft system, you have to fix it. Pass Key 3 is clever, and I remember from our professional auto electronics wizard @Jeff Armer, there are a number of different Pass Key types.

You need an auto electrician, or an auto locksmith / alarm installer with a bi-directional pro grade scan tool computer. You can't fix this yourself and you don't want to be on the highway doing 70 when the engine turns off. Also bypassing stuff with bit of wire gives a real chance of damaging very expensive modules.

I got a 2006 cobalt and the anti-theft system light (padlock) come on an my car want start. I got s new chip key an it started then a week later it did it again how can I bypass the tdm system

Can't be bypassed. Do a reset for the key. Ten minutes on thirty seconds off. A relearn is three times this. Try to start after. Once started, you need to have it scanned for security codes. To find out why it keeps loosing the programmed key.

Why the anti-thief device is keeping my truck from starting?

I replaced my computer at 53,000 miles and it starts up OK now with an occasional issue with starting like it has crud in the line or something, but the resetting the key after a miss does require the 15 minute wait. Had to do it once since the computer was replaced, but the issue before was the anti-theft system would shut it down after starting every time requiring a tow truck to get it to the shop. $700 for the computer chip replacement.

My car anti-theft seems to have kicked in and I can't get it to start. What do I do next?

hi, you can perform the reset with just your key and a battery charger to see if this will allow for restart. what you do is, hook up a battery charger to start with, low amperage setting like 15 amp, or maybe 2 amp, and leave it on the battery, you will be leaving the key on for up to an hour and the battery must not die during this time. turn the key on and try to start once for about 1-2 seconds, then let go and let key rest in run position for fifteen minutes at minimum. then turn off the key, wait ten seconds, and turn on again to run position only, leave on for another fifiteen minutes, then again, turn off for ten seconds, turn back on to run position for fifteen minutes. after this time, turn the key off, wait ten seconds, and try to start the car. if it starts, check to see if the check engine light is illuminated, or the security light is on, if one or the other is on, take to a shop and have codes checked and diagnosed, if no lights on, you should be able to drive on. if the vehicle does not start after three reset key cycles, try the process one more time. it may have been interupted somehow. if you try twice and still no start, you have to have diagnosed further, maybe in the key, maybe in the lock cylinder, maybe in the theft module.

2006 Chevrolet Equinox won't start, security system is engaged, how do we restart it?

Make sure the doors and trunk, and hood are shut, open them, and shut them .activate the anti theft, wait about 1 minute, and disarm it,see if it will start,if not,the key fob may need to be relearned, try turning the key on,leave it ten minutes, then turn it off,and right back on,then wait ten minutes, and turn it off,and right back on,do this a total of three times,,30 minutes, then try and start.
