I have a 97 Crown Vic/w police interceptor....I asked a question several days ago because of issuses I'm having with my car. The car starts sometimes, with no problems. Other times...it won't start, it will just spin and never start. It does it when the ingine is hot or cold, depending on it's mood. I've gone 10 miles from my house, go into a store and when I go get back in the car, it won't start, just spins. Sometimes, i get in my car during anytime of the day and it won't start, just spins, but other times, it starts right up. I've had to have it towed twice, cause car won't start and as soon as the tow truck leaves my house, it cranks right up. I don't understand and i'm very frustrated. At first, it seemed to not start only when the engine was warm or hot, but then I noticed it wouldn't start sometimes during the morning, when i left for work. I just got lucky when it started that afternoon, when I left. Everytime I take it to a shop, it starts right up and they tell me it has to NOT start, in order for them to tell what's wrong with it. This has happened to me several times and I've made a point to take it a differant times of the day. Plus, I've made a point to take it straight to shop and other times, drive a while, then take it to the shop, hoping the engine would be hotter and not start, but it starts right up. Anyway, someone from FixYa suggested that i replace Crankshaft sensor. I did today and as soon as I got home, I turned the car off, tried to start it and it wouldn't start. I'm not even 1 mlie from the shop. The guys there suggested I try and replace the ignition module or maybe the coil. I just went out to try and start my car, and it started right up, 3 times in a row, but wouldn't on the 4th try. Smelled a little like gas, but not too surprised about that. Any suggestions?? These parts are getting much more expensive and the mechanics aren't cheep. Of course, as hot as it is....I actually feel bad for them and they only charged me $25 in labor and It took them a few hours. Please help if you can! Thanks for your time!!

Sounds like its a starter problem,if you can pull the starter off take it to an auto parts store,

there are many locations that have equipment to put a load on the starter, and they will be

able to tell if its bad. once you pull the starter off, if you can check the teeth on the fly wheel,

if there is a dead spot, the starter could spin and not engage the flywheel. I hope it's the

starter. the bendix on the starter the teeth that engage the flywheel could also have dead

spot's. and not engage all the time. good luck!

Well, the car won't crank at all, now! I was sitting at a stop light, waiting on light to turn and the car cut off. Hasn't started since. I got it towed.

They had a couple different alternators for that car, basically the same alternator but different regulators, might be where your trouble lies

The PCM is programed for the LS engine parameters and now that you have changed engines the signal from the new engine are out of parameters> Either see if you can get the PCM reprogrammed at a dealership or purchase a new PCM and program the chip with the police engine interceptor to the vehicle> you may also return to the place where you got the engine and purchase the PCM for the police vehicle.

My 96 crown vic police interceptor, cranks won't start without spraying starter fluid.. the car won't start without spraying starter fluid into air intake hose to carb...

starting fluid is a thing of the past. dont use it. this car doesnt have a carb, its a throttle body/ electronic fuel injection system. you most likely have a fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator issue. test the fuel pressure, should be anywheres from 35-50 psi

Has anyone bothered to scan the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) or the GEM (General Electronic Module) to see if there are any fault codes? Does the engine run OK when this happens? I had a Grand Marquis that was doing something similar and the modules had several U-codes. Finally found the problem in the Transmission Range Sensor - it was shorting out the data line.

2000 crown vic police interceptor bypass a/c clutch pulley

you can get a A/C Delete kit for a Ford 4.6 liter. the 4.6 v-8 accessory drive system is all the same. You may also be able to run a line of string around the pullys, take it to your local auto parts store and they can match it up. I recomend the kit,

Have you checked the fuel filter. Fuel pump will pressure up, but fuel filter could be clogged and not work without the pressure of the fuel pump.
